iPod restaurant guide

How to install

  1. Click this link to download the guide.
  2. Your browser will prompt you to save a file ("loudounguide.zip"). Go ahead and save it to your computer, then unzip it. This should create a folder called "Loudoun Extra".
  3. Connect your iPod to your computer you should be able to see it as an external drive. On Windows, it should appear in "My Computer." On a Mac, it should appear in your Finder.
  4. Open your iPod like you would any other folder or drive, open the "Notes" folder and drag the "Loudoun Extra" folder into it. Note: Be careful not to overwrite anything you already have. If you already have a "Loudoun Extra" folder because you've downloaded stories to read on your iPod, open the "Loudoun Extra" folder you just downloaded to your desktop and drag just the "Restaurants" folder into the "Loudoun Extra" folder on your iPod.

How to view

  1. From the instructions above, disconnect your iPod.
  2. Go to your iPod's main menu, select "Extras," then "Notes," then "Loudoun Extra". Note: The first time you do this, it might take a short while to load. Don't worry — that'll only happen the first time.
  3. Navigate through the information by using the scroll wheel and click button. To go back up a level, click the "Menu" button.

F.A.Q.

How much space does the guide take up?
This changes a bit depending on when you download the guide since we're updating it so often with new restaurants and information, but it should take up about the same amount of space as two songs.
How up-to-date is this guide?
The guide is updated daily with any changes made to our online restaurant guide.
Hey, my iPod doesn't have a "Notes" feature...
Unfortunately, this only works on relatively new iPods.
How do I unzip a file?
First, try double-clicking on the file. If nothing productive happens, download a program such as WinZip (Windows) or Stuffit Expander (Mac).
How do I remove it from my iPod?
Connect your iPod to your computer like when you downloaded and added the guide, navigate through the iPod to the "Notes" folder, then delete the "Loudoun Extra" folder. It's that easy!
