These low salary illegal workers will be replaced by higher wage earning American citizens who will also pay higher taxes. Either the room rates will go up or the owners will have to make a little less money. Score one for ICE....

Appropriate actions will not have been taken until Lansdowne pays stiff fines relative to the toll that it will take on those workers who have been apprehended.

Illegal workers are ALWAYS going to be hired. They're cheap and hard working. Its a win-win for the greedy employers. And they dont really care that their workers are illegals, they're getting more for their money. Illegal workers are going to CONTINUE to be hired as long as there is still selfish business owners in this world. I don't see that ending any time soon. Its not the right thing for these businesspeople to do, but hey it's cheap labor. Works for them.
As an employee in Loudoun County, I know of MANY people in this influencial area that are hard working ILLEGALS. And being in, behind the scenes, I don't see all illegals being booted any time soon. GOOD FOR THEM.

Dear Vollieballer, I guess it is good for them as long as they aren't using YOUR identity and social security number to gain employment. And while that may also seem like a positive because the Social Security Department gets to collect two deductions from your number and will only have to pay for one, the unclaimed amount never goes to the elderly. Oh yea, one more thing, after a couple of years the illegal gets overconfident and applies for credit in your name, then a car, a house, etc... by the time you become aware, you are financially ruined. This happens every day. Good for you...

Far be it for me to inject a little fact into this emotional vein, but very few undocumented immigrants work with stolen identities. The much larger part just use made up social security numbers (and the money they pay into those accounts is growing into an immense amount of money that goes unclaimed), as I am sure will be shown if any details of this case are revealed. Of course in the event that a stolen identity is used it is a very serious crime.

Those "Made Up" Social Security Numbers may not be "Stolen" but most times they do match up with real identities, (somtimes the same number is used hundreds of times). The result is that your identity has been compromised. The illegal now has full access to your credit history and can apply and get credit. They have an established address, a place of work and a work history to reference. You as a consumer have no rights to see this duplicate information but every credit issuing company can. When you apply for a car loan, mortgage or credit card your dual identity is exposed and can be used against you but you are still not entitled to that information unless rejected. The Social Security Department does maintain a list of duplicate IDs but is not allowed to turn that information over to any other agency to act upon without a warrent. They just keep collecting the extra SS taxes and not distributing the excess money. In most cases of duplicate ID, the victim only learns of this issue by accident. If both the illegal and the victim happen to set up bank or credit card accounts with the same company (citibank, HSBC, etc) and thier mass mailling happens to go to the wrong person, and the victim then goes to the bank and asks for an explanation, then they will learn that their ID has been compromised. Otherwise they are SOL.

Do you have any statics on rates of occurance (specifically, how many times a made up social security number is used to purchase a car or home and it turns out to match someone else? Can you reference a source on this?

Lunavalle, You wanted facts, I gave you facts. If you want statistics, please contact you local Social Security office. As for reference, please read -Your Evil Twin- by Bob Sullivan. You could also read at least one of his blogs regarding the issue at http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/6814673/
Far be it from me to inject a little REAL information into this emotional vein but if your ID were stolen or copied by an illegal, I would expect you to be emotional too. Now stop arguing and demanding information and go out and do your own research.

I am looking for facts but frankly find them hard to find. I think you are mixing up a true case of stolen identity and a made up social security number. In the latter I can certainly see how that number may in fact actually match up with a real and valid social security number. I can assure you that folks that go out and purchase a fake social security card with a made up number and either their real name or a fake name, do not use that to purchase homes or cars, etc. They use it to get a job. The only other document they have to go with that is a fake green card or work permit which certainly doesn't match a real persons green card (BECAUSE ITS IS FAKE) and so obviously doesn't match the social security number on the card if it turns out to be a real number. So if they have two fake documents how would they possible get credit? If a agency issuing credit were to do a credit check they would see that the name on the id does not even match the name on the social secrity card (in the event that the social security number actually pulls up anything).

Again, what you are referring to is stolen identity which, though serious, only represents two out of the 59 workers at Lansdowne. It certainly happens but it is also not limited to undocumented immigrants (I woudl even guess that it is rare amoung undocumented workers), and those that steal identities for sale could be anyone, as we so often see in the news.

2 out of 59 is 406,780 out of 12 million (illegals) who have stolen the identity of legal Americans. The rest have made up SS #s that may or may not be duplicate numbers of legal citizens. If you had done your research you would have learned that the credit bureaus and the IRS completely ignore duplicate IDs. The credit bureaus do not deny credit due to duplication of social security numbers with different names and addresses. Here again is the main point. The illegal has nothing to lose by applying for and obtaining any form of credit, credit cards, auto loans or home mortgages but all of this works against the credit of the legal US citizen. Go to the link I provided and then read the book. Pray it doesn't happen to you or your children.

I would like to give a reaction on this comment of salm624:

My stand? Everyone is free to choose what citizenship you want to become and consequently avail the benefits that comes with it.

Just my two cents worth
