Two things -
One, it's the DemocratIC party, not the Democrat party.
Two, Democrats aren't looking for vindication. Democrats are looking for confirmation that the trend in Loudoun is moving that way.
Bad writing which plays to the Republican frame .

Democratic because of basic changes in the area demographics. The area growth is being fueled by movement of people from the Northeast (ie NY, NJ and other New England states), which trends toward Progressive politics. It simply a numbers game. Northern Virginia is no longer a part of the "south" ... it is now an extention of the Northeast.

Hmmm. Not many votes yet, so the Myers/Delgaudio Loudoun militia isn't out yet. However, Ms. Munsey ought to take a look at this.
The Republicans have only themselves to blame if the Dems take it.

I used to be a Loudoun County Republican until the party moved so far to the right that I couldn't stomach it anymore. I felt like I had to leave and let the lunatics run the asylum. As a fiscal conservative and a social liberal, I don't really have a political home anymore, but I now tend to vote Democratic for most races.

The Democrats are the only ones making sense. They seem to really want to fix things instead of just putting on a show to get elected.

I just moved into Loudoun and as such am part of a changing demographic. I intend to vote for Democrats. Republicans are killing themselves with corruption. It's a national disgrace.
I was a non-partisan office holder till I retired and normally vote independent, but it is time to send a message.

Republican corruption?? That is a media-fed lie. A few bad apples do not make the entire party look corrupt. The Democrats have their own problems which dwarf anything the Republicans are alleged to do. Ted Kennedy, Diane Fienstein, Hillary Clinton and Bill Clinton, Jeffries, Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi. They are all corrupt and have ethics charges hanging over their head that will go unchallenged until the next Republican congress.

vapensant at 7:45, you and me both. I never was member of the local party because by the time I got politically engaged I certainly would not have qualified for membership.
kmccorma 1:28, ONE bad apple (Delgaudio)is enough to ruin a barrel.

Reading the comments of those above who say they are voting democratic makes me worry about our future as a country. Mostly because it's painfully clear they are not truly in touch with reality.
Anyone who works with politicians will tell you that their public facade is very different then the private person. Both parties have corrupt members. To think that the problem is confined to one party is a ignorant and it is stupid.
All politicians want to fix problems, thats how they get elected. They just want to do it a different way. Stop thinking in terms of democrat or republician and starting think about ideas, means, methods and how well the PERSON can do to work with others, find common ground and forge a solution. Find someone who has core beliefs and it willing to stand up for those beliefs.
That is the only way things get done.

I did just that, and it's an easy call - I'm voting for the Democrats.

Interesting how when the crooks being identified are Republicans, the mantra suddenly starts being "both parties do it."
However, lfarris has given everyone a great suggestion. Look closely at the candidates, their records, their behavior and their principles. Look at who they are affiliated with. That's why the Gang of Five is quaking in their boots. One can only hope that a rousing victory for integrity and ethics will send a message the Gang's behind-the-scenes puppeteers can't ignore.
We've all watched Burton, York, Kurtz and (more recently) Waters strain to keep their tempers and their sense of humor in the face of belligerant, undignified and hostile behavior from the Gang. We're all counting the days until Loudoun's new governing majority revives the principle that the government is for the people, not for the checkbooks of developers.
