Who wants to live in a traffic jam???
I remember when Sterling was the get-away from Reston...of course there was a time that Reston was the get-away from DC. You shouldn't have to move to West Virginia to get-away from traffic.

Congratulations, Dems. Slow-growth holds sway, but in order to keep yourselves in office, you CANNOT IGNORE ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION. It's the reason Eugene kept his seat (no coincidence he's in Sterling) and it's the one issue that, if ignored, will sweep you back out in 4 years. I hope that's not the case.

Honestly, do you think anyone of these people can change the natural course??? I can't live in that fantasy world where some county supervisor tries to make me believe he or she can make the traffic go away or even improve enough to where anyone would notice. I was looking at the bond issues...combined with the Democratic make up of the BOS...can someone say TAX INCREASE? I knew you could. (using my Mr. Rogers voice)
Can't be much worse??? Wait until the Presidential / Congressional elections. It's going to be a BLOOD BATH for we conservatives.
Gee...thanks George! History will remember you fondly...NOT! Can we dig up Ronnie? I think he could do a better job dead then this guy could alive.

You want slow growth?? You got it. Now the developers will just move to WVA and the traffic will STILL FLOW through Loudoun County without the benefit of those commuters paying any taxes for the upkeep of the roads.

All I can say is WHEW! Now we can take a breath and allow Loudoun to grow smartly!

Consider this: It may not have been TOTALLY about slowing down growth. I work in the construction industry. Four years ago, we watched, and what we saw was a board who right out of the starting gate "removed" the powers of OUR duly elected At Large Supervisor, changed the comprehensive plan by use of a technicality, and laughed and made faces at opposing speakers during meetings. The issues were not consrtructively debated. That is not want we wanted. You embarrassed us. It was time for the adults to step in.

sjoyce4 - this is the last time that Delgaudio will serve on the Loudoun County Board - and it will be a useless 4 years for him. And in 4 years, after Comprehensive Immigration Reform at the national level, this will not be an issue that can make or break even a single local election.
Congratulations Loudoun! You have prooved that illegal immigration is not THE issue and that we want a sane approach at the local level.
I was pushing for George but I will take Simpson over Alhemann anyday.
GO BURTON!!!!!!!

What our elected officials don't realize (since most of them don't commute to metro or DC) that the roads are totally packed to capacity. There is gridlock all over Sterling. Since there is no more capacity for additional vehicles on our roads, the Loudoun County should institute some kind of tax every NEW (not re-registered vehicle). The tax should be of such magnitude to discourage more cars. Perhaps $1,000 per each new car registered in the County. This would also help with immigration problem, since there is incredible overcrowding in most homes owned by Hispanics (legal or not) and it is not unusual to see several cars coming from the same household, even townhouses. I guess they have aunts, uncles, nephews, and all sorts of extended families and non-related renters living in places designed for a couple with a kid or two.

While I am happy with the overall election results, I have to ask why anyone would vote for all those Sheriff Substation bonds? Does that mean we are going to pay increased taxes to have more cops taking radar? I personally don't like the idea of getting a speeding ticket now, not to mention paying to increase the likelihood. How about a bond to raise the speed limits, and for some traffic reducing measures? Also, why spend all that money on community centers that no one is going to use?

I think we have smart representation now -- for the exception of Sterling. It will be interesting to see how much Delgaudio's campaign paid for every one of those 224 votes that make up his margin of victory. No doubt he'll claim a mandate. Let's celebrate for a day or two, and then let's govern -- I know this new board is up to the task.

Steve Snow = not getting re-elected
Example: Thank god that since Bush has already served two terms he will get Steve Snowed next year.

The reason the Sheriff Substation bonds were needed is partially due to the increase in illegal immigrants and the corresponding lack of enforcement (e.g., deporting) of our existing immigration laws. The other reason is natural growth of the population overall. Once we see ICE (with the help of local law enforcement officials) enforcing our existing immigration laws by raiding employers who hire illegals, there will be a slow but steady "self-deportation" of the rest of them. That will allow the legal immigrants (and any citizen for that matter) to get jobs at a decent wage because the employers won't be able to get away with paying substandard wages. Let's honor and respect the legal immigrants who wait in line, play by the rules, assimilate into our culture (while adding in the best of their native culture) by enforcing the existing laws. Maybe then, we won't have to vote on so many new Sherriff Substation bonds (or at least not as often).

lunavalle27, thank you for giving me hope! Eugene Delgaudio is useless. He hasn't done anything for his constituents. He has a big mouth, a bright-colored hat & lots of hater money in his coffers. The only reason he kept his Board seat is because all the anti-gay, whites-only hate-filled people threw their money at him (mostly out-of-Loudoun & big-developer money). Eugene, why don't you just come out of the closet & put on your KKK hood in public?

It's laughable that higher taxes will be blamed on Democrats when the past 4 years have seen average 15% tax increases. While I don't doubt that taxes will increase, it's all because of re-zoning completed by the current and previous boards.

colind300 and fpmorrison - As the county continues to grow and become more congested, the creation of Sheriff’s Office substations becomes an important – and more economic – way to increase police presence in the communities they serve. There is a great deal of administrative processing (i.e., paper and evidence, not "people processing") that can be done far more effectively in a community station than to incur the travel time required to a more distant location. Overall, the increase in police presence around those substations should also lead to a safer environment with lower crime rates. Yes, that might mean more tickets but I think that equates to a safer neighborhood for your children and their friends.
The substations do not and will not equate in any way to the issues surrounding illegal immigration or any perceived benefit from the ICE 287(g) program. Please set your expectations for this – there will be no raids on employers and illegals will not be processed until *after* criminal arrest for some other infraction. The 287(g) program will improve identification of repeat offenders and streamline post-adjudication deportations, but doesn't give police some kind of "collect 'em and ship 'em all back" power.
