Potomac Falls High School

Potomac Falls High School is about a decade old, but at that time, it was the first new high school to be built in Loudoun County since 1976.

Because of the tensions created when a new school opens – which splits apart existing school boundaries -- Principal David Spage said other Loudoun high schools have learned from Potomac Falls.

The school opened with 856 students, but has grown to about 1,500 students today.

“This school, despite a rocky start with a small population in AAA classification, has managed to outgrow the initial challenges of the process and has taken on its own identity,” Spage wrote in an e-mail.

He said technology plays an integral role in the school’s instructional program. Potomac Falls High has seven computer labs and five carts of wireless laptops used for – among other things -- business classes, English composition, research and interactive Web sites.

In addition, the school has a graphics lab and the library is home to 14 computers.

Spage said the school has several activities that serve to bring students and the community together, including dances, the Night at the Falls event and charity events.

He also praised the Parent Teacher Student Organization for its work in fundraising and decision-making at Potomac Falls High.
