The first class at Loudoun Country Day School in 1953 had just seven students. By 1956 it had moved locations three times. At the graduation ceremonies in 1957, Mrs. Elizabeth Rust Brown, who did not have children at the school, but who was very interested in the education of children in Loudoun County, announced at the school’s graduation that she would make available a farmhouse and 5.4 acres for the school. Soon after, she gave the land and house to the school outright. This is where the current campus of eight acres and multiple buildings on Fairview St., stands.

Loudoun Country Day School, in 2008, stands poised to open a new campus of 69-plus acres off Evergreen Mills Road at the Red Cedar Development in the fall of 2009. Currently LCDS is a coeducational school, prekindergarten through eighth grade, with an enrollment of 269 students. On the new campus the elementary and middle school projects a capacity of 500. Eventual plans include a high school. Playing fields will surround the new buildings, with the projection of a swimming pool for the 75-member swim team.

According to Dr. Randy Hollister, headmaster since 1993, who has been at the school since 1987, “The new campus will allow Loudoun Country Day School to expand its robust, broad-based, liberal arts-oriented education.” He adds, “We believe in our students’ intellectual, artistic, social, and physical talents, and we view it as our special charge and privilege to help them discover and develop their potential.”

Loudoun Country Day School offers small classes, with full-time assistants through second grade and shared assistants in grades three and four. Beyond the core academics, LCDS includes foreign languages, art, music, orchestra, library, technology, physical education and athletics, field trips, and community service. Special guests include authors, illustrators, and community leaders. Students participate in the county spelling bee, History Day at George Mason, the national MathCounts competition, a national foreign language exam, among other competitions. We are fully accredited by the Virginia Association of Independent Schools. Traditional field trips are taken to Washington, D.C., Baltimore, Williamsburg, Philadelphia, New York City, and Gettysburg.

Are the schools that provide excellent education and various education activities to the students? In a day boarding school students spend their whole day, normally a period of about 10-12 hours and participate in academic studies and other activities after school hours.
