Lincoln is one of the smaller elementary schools in Loudoun County.

The school is located near Purcellville and is home to about 150 students. Principal Albert Johnson said the school stands out because of its size and its academic performance.

“Being a small school is unique,” he said. “We’re one of the top performers in the county.”

That’s true. Data from state standardized test scores indicate that Lincoln has among the highest scores in Loudoun County.

For example, in fifth-grade reading and third-grade math, 100 percent of students were proficient in 2005, according to the school’s improvement plan. The school outperformed the district’s average in nearly every barometer of success.

Lincoln’s PTO sponsors several after-school clubs, including a fitness club, art club, music club and scouts. Johnson said the school has an active PTO that provides everything from funding for assemblies to volunteers.

The school has an annual Earth Day event, as well as a PTO picnic and occasional spaghetti dinners and movie nights. Lincoln also has a Reading Under the Stars event to promote literacy.

Johnson said he hopes the school will continue to enrich the lives of students.

“We hope to work on a daily basis to provide activities for our students in conjunction with the regular academics we focus on,” he said.
