Editorial Review:
Lightfoot Restaurant has occupied the majestic People's Bank Building opposite the county courthouse for the past decade. The towering space has fireplaces large enough to stand in, ethereal Fortuny lamps and huge posters of European ads. The old bank vault that serves as the wine cellar is elegant and a bit whimsical (check out the butler at the entry). The surroundings may be chic, but the place is comfortable, with bar nibbles such as homemade potato chips and guacamole. The signature tomato soup is a winner, and if pulled pork barbecue is a special, don't miss it. Luncheon favorites include a meatloaf sandwich that can be downright addictive. The salads show particular care. Both Tuscarora Mill and Lightfoot are smoke-free.

The weather was incredible and Leesburg was having their big downtown spring festival so we expected Lightfoot to be mobbed. It was almost empty. Yet we were seated at the worst table in the house, just outside the kitchen, bathrooms, back door and next to the loading door for the bar. Festival people actually used the restaurant as a shortcut to their next row of vendor booths. We hesitated to sit down once shown our table, but the waiter insisted it was a great table and he would "be there just for you ladies". And from then on he continued to stop at our table to chit-chat about how much a ladies man he is and what a good time he shows his ladies. He only made eye contact with one of us, treated the others as if they weren't even there. Yet when I asked to see the dinner menu, he walked off mumbling..."Oh God". He returned to run his mouth about Lightfoot being such a classy place to be associated with. We finally had to interrrupt him to get our check so we could leave. I overtipped him to make him feel guilty. A moment later we witnessed him try to get his bosses attention and the boss just blew him off. The waiter must be an irritant to more than just us. The restaurant is beautiful and the food was pretty good, and the blonde ponytailed bartendress made me a delicious drink, but as we left by the back door, that waiter tried to stop us to talk again, and then we discovered this place has a back patio with umbrella'd tables and live music. Why on earth didn't we get to sit out there? I personally will never go back, better ambience can be had two blocks away and that waiter won't be there either.
