First Baptist Church Watson welcome message:
"Rich in History, Strong in Pride, Endeavoring in Faith, First Baptist Church of Watson (FBCW) nestled between Evergreens Mills and Watson Road continues to serve Loudoun County, Virginia.
Known in the 1840’s as Negro Mountain and later renamed Watson Mountain, the church was called “home” for some Free Negroes.
The late Reverend Douglas Fisher organized FBCW, to serve the local black population in November 29, 1896. The first organization meeting took place about a mile from where the church presently stands, in the home of the late Edward Moten. Prior to organization meetings, prayer meetings were held in the homes of several charter members. Among the chartered members were: Reverend Bush W. Murray, Frances Bigsby, Mr. And Mrs. Lewis Hall, Samuel Thornton, Jr., Mr. And Mrs. Edward Gant, Mr. And Mrs. George Overall, Rachel Lee and Martha Dearin.
When founded, FBCW not only address the spiritual needs of the black community, it also served the educational needs of both white and colored students. In preparation for weekend worship, each Friday, school desks and equipment were moved into a corner; and on Monday morning, the items were moved back into place. This continued until about 1949, when the church school was closed due to the opening of Douglas Elementary in Leesburg.
Today FBCW is still serving Loudoun County’s multi-cultural population. The church is dedicated to spreading the Gospel and teaching God’s people through Worship, Prayer and Praise Services, Sunday School, Bible Study, and Mission Outreach."
