Most of David R. Williams's letter ["Loudoun and National GOP Have the Same Ailment," Loudoun Extra, May 14] is an exaggeration. I don't know how anyone can call "laissez-faire" the 20- or 40-acre lot minimums for most of Loudoun County that some Republican supervisors voted for. The unrealistic level of preservation that Williams wants would require a dictator — or a lot less federal government so as to reduce housing demand.

At the national level, Williams perpetuates the myth that the free market caused the financial bust. This is untrue. Those who want to learn the other side of this dispute should read "Meltdown," by Thomas E. Woods Jr., or "Liberty and Tyranny," by Mark R. Levin, both New York Times bestsellers. They will read what I believe to be the truth, and it is contrary to Williams's accusations against Republicans.
