Horse lovers and socialites alike headed out to The Plains on Saturday for the 84th anniversary of the Virginia Gold Cup races.

The cloudy, gray day couldn't deter the thousands of spectators who came out to participate in one of the largest horse races in the Washington, D.C, metro area.

Washington Post photojournalist Tracy Woodward was there to capture some of the sights of the day.
