The Loudoun County Sheriff's Office is reporting that deputies identified overnight the man who was killed and woman who was critically injured in Lansdowne early Sunday morning. The couple are husband and wife who live in Potomac Station in Leesburg and are in their mid-to-late 50's.
Officials are withholding the names of the victims until family is notified. more information will be released as it becomes available.
Shortly after 5 a.m. yesterday, a person living near Riverside Parkway and Rocky Creek Drive in the Lansdowne area called police with a strange tip: There had been a commotion outside, and a white panel van had left the area and returned, said Kraig Troxell, a spokesman for the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office.
When an officer arrived, the van was gone, but the body of a man was on the side of the road, Troxell said. He would not specify the nature of the man's injuries.

Police later found the woman in the woods across Riverside Parkway, Troxell said. She was taken to a hospital, where she was in critical condition, he said. He also declined to provide specifics about her injuries.
Troxell said neither victim was carrying identification. Investigators said they believe that the two were injured in the same incident, he said, but it was unclear whether it occurred in the neighborhood near Riverside Parkway or whether the bodies were moved there from another location.
In the several hours following the discovery of the two victims, police were seeking help from the public in identifying them. The man was wearing a black and gray jogging outfit with a tan shirt underneath. He was also wearing a green stocking cap. The woman reportedly was wearing jogging clothes.
Riverside Parkway between Kingsport Drive and Coton Reserve Drive was closed for several hours while police searched the area for clues, Troxell said.

thank goodness I'm in FL presently and not in that dangerous neighborhood of Lansdowne. Maybe the Leesburg Sheriff's department will actually have something to do other than give unsuspecting middle American family's speeding tickets for going 10 mph over the speed limit!

Does anyone understand that with the line "A 911 call about a suspicious van this morning led to the discovery of two bodies in Loudoun County"
Bodies typically means they are DEAD. In this case 1 man was dead, and with your own description "She was taken to a local hospital, where she is in critical condition..."
Does someone need to return to journalism 101?

People drive over that bridge at well over the speed limit; sometimes 80mph (35 speed limit).

Illegals or not, no one should be shocked that this could happen in Loudoun. It hasn't been a safe suburban cocoon, immune from all those "city" problems, for years now. But then, unless you want to gate-in the whole county, cocoons are impossible in a major metropolitan area.

*not all illegals are criminals (hunter340) or murderers (cr10). Stop trying to find a race/group to blame everything on.*
I have lived in Miami Beach before and this is a pretty secure place! Of course this is the real world and these crimes are always gonna happen...sadly.

I'm not blaming illegals for anything. Just want to make the point that people who go out of their way to insulate themselves from people unlike themselves -- like those who would suggest that all illegals are criminals, are kidding themselves.

I moved out of Lansdowne in 2005. You could see then all the undesirables were taking over in neighboring communities.
The last straw for me was driving into Leesburg and every other car had an El Salvadorian flag hanging from the rear view mirror....might as have had a bumper sticker saying "lifetime member of MS-13...."

Hey kasy_y, if you want to move to area where the cops don't speed trap and only investigate homicides try Anancostia, Petworth, Suitland, etc...
I would much prefer the speed traps.

early news from a police source. possible female rape victim ready to die. man killed protecting woman and now he's dead. white panel van seen at the scene. hummmmm.... could it be an (illegal) hispanic person traveling to the lansdowne town center to work constructing condos/townhomes?!?! i hope this isn't the true scenario and that the persons were dumped, but we shall see. everytime i read or watch the news, i am amazed at the world and what we have come to. not trying to put a political spin on this, since i am all over the world, but this country isn't what our forefathers anticipated. there are alot of hispanic and idian folks in loudoun. some are extremely nice folks, but the majority do not want to assimilate and want to change our country to be like there native country. i hate evolving into the person i am.... i hope the murder scenario is something domestic because this is the last thing we need..

wow - there are some real knuckleheads on here...
A white van parked on RS Pkwy generated the call - that is telling if you ask me.
For one there is no parking on RS Pkwy so that probably implies that the 'bodies' were dumped there by someone not from around here thinking they were out in the middle of nowhere.
For all the NIMBY's that think a neighborhood designation in a developing county will insulate them from city problems - Wake Up! Add people to anything and you get your problems.
The snottyness of some of our neighbors to the north of Rt 7 is amazing to me.

What indicates that this was committed by latinos and/or illegas? I am glad you guys don't do investigations. Follow the evidence, not racist assumptions.

My God you people are racist.....how on earth do you jump to the conclusion that these are illegals? I would have responded to one post directly but there were so many racist ones I couldnt pick one....we live in America remember. Funny thing is that all the snotheads in lansdowne(I live there and am surrounded by them) are more than happy to have illegals make their yards look good but are the first to point fingers when bad things happen. Reading these posts makes me want to puke and is depressing because it makes me realize that people around me are mostly stuck up, arrogant fools.....funny thing is that for the most part, all the snobs in Lansdowne dont have a pot to piss in as they are up to their eyeballs in debt.

yetep556 - very big of you to use the comments section in a story about the murder of a one man and the vicious and malicious wounding of a woman. Either or both could have been one of your "snobby" neighbors. Get off your soapbox and move out if you are so disgusted with your neighbors and all of us "snotheads." How can you stand to live with us? The sad thing is that two people were brutally attacked in our development and all you can do is whine about people who are better off than you. You are disgusting. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families of these two people who were attacked this morning.

Doing 35 in a 25 is criminal even if is only 10 over. The interesting thing is, the people who complain about receiving a speeding tickets don't live in neighborhood in which they speed.
I bet the person who committed this crime is as white as the rest of you racist white flight urban sprawl ego centric 4x4 SUV driving dumas posters.

Hey BillyBob7,
Re-read my post and understand that I was responding to the posters who were jumping to the conclusion that it was illegals....and, yes, that is the prevailing sort of attitude among most in Lansdowne that I have met. Upon moving in, I have been mortified by the number of people hoping to have "good" neighbors who live in who are "like us". Deny it if you want there buddy but that is how it is.
As far as whining about those who are better off than me....not sure where I did that-please enlighten me....just cause you brought it up Mr. Rich,I would put my situation up against anyone's in this neighborhood...
I am completely aware of how sad it is that one person lost their life and another person was hurt. My post responded to those people that were using it to vent their racist opinions and referenced the fact that most I have met around here are like that----I dont need a soap box, as reality hits the nail on the head.

yetep556 - I am not your buddy, nor am I rich. And I don't know how you came to the conclusion that the people who posted on this board were all from Lansdowne and among the "snotheads" you seem to live near. You paint very well with your elitist broad brush. The "whining" comment was my opinion about your note where you said "Funny thing is that all the snotheads in lansdowne(I live there and am surrounded by them) are more than happy to have illegals make their yards look good but are the first to point fingers when bad things happen." Perhaps I am assuming here, but the entire tone of your email was that you were better than all the people around you. Maybe you are. Please accept my apology then, you are the better person obviously.
You are not aware of how sad this situation is or you would not have opined about your neighbors and your disgust with them. I would suggest that if you saw something happen to one of your neighbors you would simply turn your back and laugh.

Lansdowne is just one of many self-selecting communities in the D.C. area, or any suburban region for that matter. Yetep556 makes a very good point that has nothing to do with caring or not caring about a person being killed and another one harmed. How did that connection pop up?
Fact is, no community is all this or all that, not even in the white-flight outer suburbs of N.Va. But those who maintain that this crime must have been committed by illegals apparently wish they could live in communities of all-them. All I can say to them is, grow up!

BillyBob7,
After re-reading my post, I realized you were correct....I did correlate my frustration with the people posting here being racist with the people in Lansdowne and that wasnt fair-just the result of years spent hearing racist comments combined with similar sorts of comments today after the murder....I am not better than those who live here in any way but I do know that I dont have a racist bone in my body. I also know that when I say or do something out of line, i admit it and looking back, I did paint a broad stroke with my words.
You are correct when saying I was on a bit of a soapbox....you are not correct when you say that I dont see how sad this is and that I wouldnt help a neighbor--so, so unture and that is a remark you should feel bad about because you dont know me....I would do anything for a neighbor in need.
I am sorry for my part in this verbal back and forth and regret that it took any focus away from the main thing which is praying for those affected and hoping those responsible are caught.

Hm, yes, I see.
One man dead, a woman in critical condition, and all anybody can think to comment on is:
a) The wording of the article.
b) How much Lansdowne sucks.
c) Whether or not the culprit is of a non-Caucasian race, or an illegal immigrant.
d) Each other's comments.
I can see that people's hearts are in the right place. Desensitisation via the internet and media is wonderful - I can't wait for the day when people hardly react to the news that murder (men and women with personalities, lives, relations) has taken place in their own neighbourhood.
Oh wait, maybe it's already happened. My bad.

Post 2) responding to a negative post - again nothing to do with the topic at hand/
See the irony here? You've added nothing to this discussion but the very types of comments you yourself are decrying. That's called being a hypocrite. Please respond again with an off-topic post commenting on my comment to really drive the point home.

to the person who has already concluded that the crime was committed by construction workers at town center: on Sunday? and hasn't construction pretty much come to a halt there? please wait 24 hours or maybe even 48, allow the police time to investigate, and wait for one or two facts to emerge before deciding who did it and why. and God rest his soul, the victim, and grant to the other victim the strength she will need to recover.

Something is fishy here as this story did not elude to the vehicle they were in was in an accident or not?
I am in my early 50's having been recently unemployed and in the interviewing processes that I have been through over the past couple of months I find myself either over qualified or too old.
Perhaps this man and woman had similar experiences in trying to find steady work and entered the drug business and got on the wrong side of a deal gone bad.

Sorry about your troubles. Persevere, and don't take "rejection" too personally (see story in Sunday's Washington Post business section). Often times it is not that you are too old, it is that your experience puts you in an income bracket that is beyond the employer's reach. Translation: if you really want to work, you might have to consider a pay cut at least for now. One comment: IMHO the difference between professional and amateur sleuths is that they don't project their own experiences onto those involved in the crime scenes they investigate. Find the facts and follow those.

This is all very sad. It's sad that someone lost their life and another is seriously hurt. It's sad that so many quickly assume it was a crime commited by a minority. It's sad that is seems crime in Loudoun is on the up. It may just be that I am more aware but every week I read that there are home invasions, robberies and assults in Ashburn/Leesburg. Hillsboro has had 2 armed robberies recently. Hillsboro!
I grew up in Round Hill and gone are the days when people would leave their doors unlocked.
My girlfriend runs past that very spot a few times a week. I will feel a lot better when there is a better undstanding of what happened. I'll feel even better when the police have someone in custody.

Unfortunately, there IS a knee-jerk response that illegals committed a crime because there are many, many incidents of illegals committing horrendous crimes. (Remember the illegal alien from Honduras who robbed and raped the 78-year-old woman and was sentenced only last week?)
However, it would behoove all of us to 'take a deep breath' and wait for further information before leaping to conclusions.

Most of you that have responded to this article that live in Lansdowne think that you all live in a little safe suburban neighborhood of DC. Well that is the fact, that it is a suburb of DC with a mixing pot of all kinds of races. It is not just white collar people with nannies (bc they are too busy to actually raise their own children) and SUV's. If that is what you are looking for, then you might as well join the racist rednecks and the KKK while your at it. Did you all forget about the women who, a few years ago, tried to murder her own children and then thru herself out her bedroom window (Red House Drive)?? Did you all forget about the rash a break-ins that happened while the homes were being built and people (not just Hispanics) where stealing all the appliances, TVs, etc?? The fact of the matter is that there was a human murdered and another human gripping to life. Since they were found in jogging suits, it is most probable that they live in the neighborhood and they were out for their morning run. Don't be surprised when it is not an illegal but another white collar person who lives' next-door to one of you!!

Not to mention that wild, unfounded speculation can leave the community on the lookout for the wrong thing. Some of you may not have been living in this area during the sniper shootings but those suspects turned out to be an American (a veteran, even, sadly) and a teenager. And the whole DC-MD-VA area spent weeks on the lookout for a white van that ended up being completely irrelevant.

As for me, I am trying to explain to my children why I do not want to go to the canoe launch anymore - - and why I feel a sense of loss driving on Riverside parkway now - - I don't even get pissed off at the speeders cutting me off going 60mph on the 35mph roadway right now - - nor have I gotte angry at the a-hole driving qt least 45 on my 25mph street (riverpoint). No, the sense of fear I now have as I remember that my female children and I often walk across the street to the canoe launch, and my 20+ daughter frequened the waters with her canoe - - alone - - has overtaken my sense of outrage for the moment!

The best news, other than that the woman seems to be hanging on, is that the best eyewitness to the crime is still alive. This can be invaluable to the investigators if she is able to recover and provide details.

My sympathies to the families and residents. No one should have to face brutality such as this. But part of taking back the community is to identify what is causing events like this in the first place, and do something about it. the answers may be unpleasant for some to hear, but that does not make them any less true. And to ignore is to be complicit in allowing the same things to happen again. Let's wait for the facts, but cowering in your home isn't going to make things better. Take back your community.

This is such a horrific crime. All those posters out there making awful comments, I guess you wouldn't understand the tragedy unless it happened to your family.
There is an update on the crime and no, it was not a couple from Sterling and there were no drugs involved. They are saying it appears to be a random crime, which is evern more awful.
Although I don't live in Potomac Station or Lansdowne but I'm pretty close by. This means I should think twice before going out for walks/jogs even with my husband.

It is a shame what has happened to Loudoun in the past 25 years. Best of luck to the families of these victims and to the law enforcement officers assigned to solve this case. I wish stricter development planning was put in place back in the 1980’s then we would not have had this uncontrollable growth. Loudoun was a great place to live back then and I am a sixth generation Loudouner.

Sweet, a possible rape and murder in my back yard. That's perfect. If the criminals do turn out to be the beloved, hard-working, salt-of-the-earth illegal aliens, I can't wait to give up a larger portion of my income so that I can pay for their healthcare and carry their tax burden.

After reading most of the posts on this article, I'm absolutely disgusted with most of the comments flying back and forth. This could have easily been anyone of us. How would you feel if this was your neighbor, your spouse, or even worse your own child? Would you still be writing what you wrote? Who cares what neighborhood this happened in?! It still happened. There's a man dead and his wife is in critical condition and you all are griping about HOA's, neighborhoods, illegal immigrants, etc. Grow up!! It doesn't matter where you live, crime is every where and you can't avoid it. If you think just because you live in a gated community that you're safer, you'd better think again.

My sympathies to the families. I see many rxcists have come out of their closets to comment.
Let's take a vow:
If its a Caucasian American who committed this crime, let's blame ALL Caucasian Americans in the country for it. Let's have the police racial profile ALL Caucasian American neighborhoods because we know they are partly to blame for the crime. They should not be angry when they are stopped, asked to show ID, thrown on their carhood and given a ticket if they forgot to bring their latest copy of insurance in their car or if they have a non-working windshield wiper.
You know that is what you want to happen if it is a Latino/minority committed the crime.

I live in leesburg about 8 miles from that area, but I also have 2 friends that live off battery point and the other off south king st in leesburg, about 7 months ago someone vandalized one of their houses spray painting gang symbols on their garage doors on at least 2 houses on south king.. I agree with extra security, the county needs to ask for some TARP money from the state to beef up police patrol early in the morning. if anything in this econonomy their going ot reduce the number of police offers their hiring.

Looks like the socialist disease of letting illegal MS-13 gang members walk free is spreading to Lowdown County. Is PWC the only county in Northern Virginia to actually take a stand against the Mexican invaders. Fairfax might as well be named Tijuana COunty. THat's what you get for rolling out the red carpet and giving handouts to the illegal wetbacks. In escence ARlington, Lowdown, Fairfax, and Alex. are vitrually PAYING the illegals to plague their communities with drugs and murder. Pretty soon NoVA (with the exception of Prince William) will look like a socialist Northern ghetto like MAryland rather than Virginia.

warden26 - guess what, the TARP money is being used for all kinds of other projects besides bank bailouts.. California is already getting money from the feds from TARP to beef up police patrols.. the 8.9% unemployment rate has made murders double in the last year...

not sure if my last comment posted, but the feds are using TARP not just for bank bailouts warden26, California is already getting money for their police force in certain counties directly from the state from TARP. Ever since the unemployment hit 8.9% they've seen a huge jump in crime. Luckily we live in a area where there's a lot of federal jobs so our is hovering around close to 5%. We have it better than most of the U.S. folk.

These comments really disturb me. Just because it was a white van doesn't mean it's automatically a hispanic person. Im a hispanic. I don't know if many have you forgotten your history but everyone is an immigrant because they all came from europe or central/south america. So don't talk about immigrants because that's what your ancestors are. Whoever commited this crime could be anyone. I can't believe I live in a community with idiots who think like this. My impression of this county just dropped, along with the people in it.
Posted by durritslaura (anonymous) on March 23, 2009 at 6:01 p.m. (Suggest removal)
I don't like the fact that we are automatically jumping to the conclusion that the suspects are illegal, and Latin. On the other hand, why are we screaming at the top of our lungs about racism? That is not the issue here. The fact, one person is dead, and another's life has been completely ruined. If that woman lives she will never be the same. Someone did this crime. I am not saying it is a Latin person. I am saying that there is a chance. There is also a chance these suspects are white, or black or brown. Lansdowne is a community of stuck up snobs. I agree to that. I have lived in Loudoun County for over twenty years. I have seen it go from the place you want your kids to grow up in, to a place you don't want to go out at night. I have lived in Sterling as well as Leesburg. We have a problem here. We have teenagers that need guidance. They are not getting it. So, they are turning to joining gangs instead of sports. They are doing drugs instead of working. Now, if it turns out this act was gang related, all this racism talk will go out the window. We only have problems with one gang in Loudoun County, that is MS13. The real problem is what are we going to do, if we find out this was a gang initiation or something along those lines. I for one, believe the racism will get a lot worse then.

I am a teenager. I know what teenagers do. Sterling is way worse than here, so people need to stop complaining. Second, why would a gang go after an old man? Seriousily, gang members go after other teenagers who have done something to them. To that person up there who said they moved because people had El Salvadorian flags on their cars might as well have life member of ms13, you need to learn that not all people from there are in ms13. My family is from El Salvador and not one person is in MS. You also need to watch what you say because you never who could be reading this.

I used to live in Leesburg in 1972. I wired most of the houses in Sterling Park as a young electrician. I moved to the west coast in 1975. What the hell has happened back there? It was a great place to live, after having grown up in Vienna. Seems the illegals are EVERYWHERE now. I never expected southerners to put up with them.

This is a horrible tragedy no matter what race was involved and I hope they find the animals that did this and punish them SEVERELY.
I am a strong opponent of illegal immigration and have been for years. Considering what has been going on in our area...in our country lately, I would be a liar if I said that one of my early thoughts in this tragedy was not that this is yet another crime committed by and illegal or a gang member. Although I wouldn't be so quick to make some of the assumptions I have seen here.
You would have to be living with your head in the sand to not see what is happening in Loudoun County, in our entire country. I moved to Sterling Park in 98’ and watched what illegal immigration can do to a community. I have watched neighbor-after-neighbor move to the newer, "safer" communities to flee the problem. And I knew that unless something is done, the problem will spread to Ashburn, Cascades, Landsdown and all other LC neighborhoods.
When we stand up and fight we are labeled as Racists, Xenophobes, Rednecks and the like. The PC folks have abused those terms so much they have lost all meaning to me. I will continue to fight and continue to submit regular complaints to county zoning.
I live 1/4 mile from the Sterling Park Mall and just around the corner from the elderly woman who was raped by that worthless animal illegal. I have a relative that was nearly killed when an illegal driving a landscaping van hit him head-on. I drive the route every morning where a man was hit and killed in Herndon while walking his dog and I could go on-and-on with similar stories. I see first-hand the reality of what illegal immigration and gangs do to a neighborhood.
In the end it does not matter much whether it was an illegal or a citizen, lives were destroyed on Sunday. But in my eyes it would become an even bigger tragedy if it turns out to have been committed by yet another illegal while too many of our citizens continue to choose PC BS over fighting for what is right.

After reading these comments I'm glad I don't live in Lansdowne. Sounds like a pressure cooker. Even the name's pretentious. I enjoy my DC neighborhood--Trinidad--where we don't have an HOA, where we don't feel anxious that people of a different race may move next door because people of a different race already live next door and we somehow manage, where we don't have a long commute into DC, and where there are things to do. The two neighborhoods do have something in common though: crime.

aguy7,
I enjoy my Loudoun county neighborhood too, it is about 7-8 miles away from Lansdowne. Actually it also doesn't have an HOA, we enjoy many different ethnicities, while we have pretty much everything we need here, I do come into DC for occasional sightseeing or a hockey game and the 25 mile commute isn't all that bad.
So, what is your point?
I find it amusing that a resident of Northeast DC made an attempt to come to this thread and look down their nose at the quality of life here in Loudoun County. How many murders were there in Northeast so far this year?

Lansdowne is a wonderfully beautiful area and I don't happen to live there. I do live in a great area of Loudoun County and I have to say that we should be supporting our local schools with the funding they need; NOT the ridiculously, over-sized, far too expensive, do very little good in comparison, crooked and obviously very bored police department! Instead of handing out tickets to teenagers for nothing more than tinted windows, perhaps they can do what other police departments around the country do...raise funds for our schools and other great organizations in the county who employs them! I say the budget in Loudoun needs a major overhaul with the PD being the first to be tremendously downsized.

How do any of you know if the people who were attacked were caucasian. Could they have been latin, black, asian or any other race...yep. Could the attackers have been the same...yes again. Thiefs are not gonna rob people jogging (who carries money while jogging/walking). Gangs are gangs, full of RANDOM violence. Teens and young adults are for the most part not the smartest when it comes to common sense and rarely consider the consequences of there actions. (most likely the culprits in my opinion) It could have been a gang, a rapist, disgruntled employee, a parent pissed about a custody battle or divorce, some junkie twisted out of there mind or just a random killing...whatever. It happens, in "good" neighborhoods and "bad". People kill people and thats a fact. How many "white, black, asian, latin, other" people in the military are killing people right now that they have never meet (terrorist/innocent civilian). How may "white, black, latin, asian, other" people are killing random people in the "urban jungle" right now as well. The same for the people out in "the sticks". To all you finger pointers...whatever "side" your on...shut up and take a look a yourself. This is not the first killing and it will not be the last. Its called life...were all just trying to live it the best we can...hopefully the woman comes around, can help identify the people..whoever they are and get back to life.

Concerning the police department in this county: uneducated, unnecessary rodents who serve little meaning to this county. It makes me sick to think these jerk-offs get to claim they "serve the people." They serve their wallets and fat pig bellys! I hate that these donkeys run around acting like celebrities thinking they are superior. We have far too many pigs on the payroll. Its time to start layoffs!!! With the way the economy is, the timing is great! The only people that become cops, are those who failed in school and wanetd an easy way out. Well, at least in this county. I barf in my mouth knowing pigs hand out tickets and enjoy some sort of sick pleasure afterwards. Go to hell pigs! Burn in hell pigs!
PS- The lawn mower concept is absolutely genius! What better way than to put slackers to work than have them do a little lawn work! With this economy they don't even deserve that, You fifth class animals!

I'm getting rather tired of everyone asserting "racism" without even knowing what it means. Racism describes the belief that one race is genetically predisposed to certain gifts or limitations. For example, it would be racist to believe that the school aptitude scores of whites/asians are 2 standard deviations higher than other races because they are more intelligent genetically. Or that because blacks make up more than 50% of the major sports leagues with only 12% of the general population, blacks are more athletically gifted than whites. Or that hispanics are better dancers....
What you mean to say is that some of these posters are culturally prejudiced. This is the belief that certain cultures relay more positive/negative tendencies than others. For example, it would be prejudiced to assume that asians value education more highly since they have greater college graduation rates and much lower dropout rates. Or that hispanics are more diligent workers who are willing to perform nearly any job to improve their family's well-being. Or... that hispanics are more likely to participate in gangs and criminal activity because even at 13% of the population, they commit a much higher percentage of the gang-related criminal activity.
If an hispanic child were raised in an asian household from birth and you think they are still more likely to drop out of school and join a gang, you are a racist. But if you think a white raised in a black household is less likely to be a NASCAR fan, then you are culturally prejudiced.
Nobody is implying that most, or nearly all, hispanics (or any race) are not kind, law-abiding, responsible citizens. Some have simply pointed out that when a small portion of the population are responsible for a disproportionate amount of certain behaviors - namely criminal hispanic gangs often populated by illegal immigrants - a trend exists by definition.
If you are going to righteously accuse others of being "haters" as opposed to pointing out the obvious, please get your PC definitions straight.

After reading the rest of your stupid post, and trying to make sense of where you are trying to go with it, I was even more amused that you needed to point out my typo. Your logic is laughable at best.
This thread is about the murder and beating of two citizens yet you still insist on trying to somehow use this media to push for even more money for schools to mismanage. That’s the point I was trying to make and I'll leave it at that.

fmrplayer,
These race card players always have a weak argument on the subject.
It is just too hard for them to intelligently argue the fact that there is a direct correlation between many current issues and illegal immigration. It is just easier to blame us for stealing this land, claim they are doing jobs Americans can't do or call us racists.
On my street I have a family of Columbians, 1 of El Salvadorians, 1 Korean family and 1 Lebanese family. The rest are American born consisting of mostly Caucasian with 1 black family and 1 mixed race family. I have taken the time to get to know all of them except one white elderly couple that keeps to themselves and one white family that has just moved in. I have had most of them over to my home as a group and as individuals as well as meeting them at other gatherings. I respect (or disrespect) each of them as individuals.
I have also taken part in the reporting and even removal of people in three different homes over the past four years on my street alone, not to mention several other zoning violators throughout my neighborhood. On my street, One was a group of El Salvadorian men overcrowding and trashing a rented home, one was a group of Hispanics (not sure of race) overcrowding, trashing, partying and fighting (including wife beating). And the third was a group of black and Hispanic young folks that were fighting, stealing, vandalizing and dealing drugs.
On the illegal immigration issue I write letters make calls, go to meetings and report violators. In the eyes of illegal supporters that makes me a racist. In the eyes of most of the law abiding people who take the time to get to know me I am not.
Like I've already said, nobody knows yet who committed this horrible crime. Based on my most recent experiences with violent crime in this area, I couldn't help but wonder if it was yet another act of either an illegal or a gang...hopefully time will tell.

I preferred Lansdowne when it was owned by Xerox and was acres of trees, fields, and deer that would eat right out of your hand.

@kasy_y (anonymous)... Loudoun is FAR safer than any county in FL and richer.
@eftball14 (anonymous)... The cops in the county are a joke, that is no secret. Lawyers line the courthouse daily getting cases dismissed and reduced charges because the cops lied or failed to provide proper evidence of wrongdoing by an accused person(s). Mostly because they are inept in the art of investigation and deductive reasoning.
@MillnmInteriors... Having gone K-12 in Loudoun County schools (Potomac Falls 2002 alumni) I have to say that they are some of the best funded schools in the D.C. Metro. We would visit schools outside the county and be shocked that they didn't have some of the equipment and technology that was considered standard in our school. Not to mention Loudoun school teachers are among some of the best paid in the area. The only thing they should do away with is the 8 point grading scale and adopt the 10 point scale colleges use.
Personally it was strange to see my neighborhood on the news. When I heard murder in "upscale neighborhood of Lansdowne" I sat straight in bed thinking "WTF that's not real... damn there's my house in the background." But this is just as shocking as a classmate Eric V(don't remember his last name), a teenager murdered in Countryside over 10 years ago at random by some guy who didn't even live in the county. Just happened to be on one of many unlit sidewalks all of us kids traveled at night in those years feeling safe, walking to the store minding his own business. We were more fearful of coming across a lone black bear or running across an aggressive buck than being attacked by another human, but times, they have changed. No longer a county of random neighborhoods separated by farmland people from all over the world are here now, so you hate mongers better get use to it and learn to live in peace.
People knock off the stereotypes of some aggressive minority ethnicity being responsible for this tragedy. People are people, white people are just as aggressive and capable of causing harm as the Latinos, Blacks, Asians, Middle Easterns, et cetera.

JustMeSterling...I apologize for putting egg on your face; that IS about the only laughable item in these posts. My comments were supporting the people who had spoken about the local sheriff's department earlier in the day; I happen to agree with them. Regarding schools and funding... when was the last time you sat in one of the classrooms, attended a meeting or even helped out any school or organization in this county that you are such an expert on the subject of funding? Your idea of mismanagement with funding extends to the law enforcement office which is inflated. We may have crime in these areas...even some horrific, life-altering crime but it's far and few. Even the immensely over-staffed sheriff's department couldn't foresee or stop the current tragedy, however, perhaps education could have? Unless all statistics are totally wrong, lack of education is usually a major factor in crime. Perhaps instead of spending all of your precious time reporting violators in your neighborhood, writing lengthy letters and attending those types of meetings which will attract more of it (crime) to you, you might want to join on board and take a more realistic approach by seeing the goodness around you and encouraging that? And BTW, before you misconstrue my comments...I'm not anti law enforcement officers (DC has some of the best and most polite), I just happen to believe that the fire department, ecological organizations (saving the precious earth), medical assistance for local families who have lost their health insurance, meals provided with dignity for the home-bound citizens of this county and other social organizations who make a positive difference everyday in the lives of the people are far better ideas for our resources in this devastating economy. Logic? Some of the most far-fetched, comical ideas can be the best!

@MillnmInteriors.... I'm with you on crimes being far and few between. And you're correct officers could not have stopped a crime they didn't know about before hand. That is why it's called random crime. Over staffed or not people have to remember Loudoun County is HUGE it does exist far far past Leesburg. Cops can't be everywhere. It is strange that on the one night something happens there was no Deputy or Leesburg cop on that road. On any given day I can come across at least 2 or 3 cops (usually more) either parked along or cruising that same stretch of road day and night. Their presence in the overall Lansdowne area is usually pretty high. Except, of course, on the night something goes wrong.

Have to say; at least your posts are getting slightly less wacky Millnminteriors,
I am very involved with all aspects of my community including regularly attending BOS meetings, and getting regular updates from both my supervisor and the Sterling supervisor. While I support PTA functions as best I can I am not intimately involved with school functions but that doesn't mean I don't know what is going on with my tax dollars. I also help out with Boy Scouts and participate in community clean up. We are also forming a neighborhood watch.
So thanks for your advice on how to spend my time...but bite me.
I reported drug dealers, wife beaters and drunks who were destroying my neighborhood and will continue to do so along with other illegal immigrants who are bringing down my property value with overcrowded, unclean, unsafe conditions. That is not creating crime that is cleaning it up.
Despite what you think there are many ways to contribute to the whole of the community besides dumping good money after bad into one area and mindlessly voting yes to every whim that the school has.

Blaming illegals right off the back, eh? Although they are speculating that this was gang related, I don't know how you can automatically blame immigrants. Stop being so bigoted, you'll feel less guilty.
Second, this isn't a reflection on the community of Lansdowne. There are horrible things that happen everywhere. If i'm not mistaking, Loudoun County was ranked as the most wealthy county in America just a few years back. We're pretty safe here, things just happen.
Hopefully whomever did this, Illegal or not, gets found and thrown in jail. Thoughts and prayers for the victims and family. <3

JustMeSterling...Perhaps you might want to check into your own insane posts? You seem to have one heck of a neighborhood, I'll tell you! You sound like the 'Superman' of crime, fighting aliens in your own neighborhood...are you certain you aren't delusional? Drug dealers, wife beaters and worse yet...DRUNKS...all on the same street and in YOUR neighborhood? OMG! Glad I don't live there! Sounds like you have too much time on your hands minding everyone else's business other than your own...perhaps you should BITE yourself?

Statistically, chances are it was an illegal. That is a fact.

JustMeSterling:
You seem to live one hellacious life. You claim to be involved in the community in various ways but, where do you find the time to report such insane actions in such a corrupt community when you are busy helping out the "Boy Scouts" and cleaning up the community. Are you sure your acts are not just an act of phoniness?

Lol, while you're living out the rest of your pueny life, claiming that this was the job of illegals, (which it might of been ONLY if it was a planned hit), our world is being taken over by a zionist entity known as the U.N. theorize that you Cluck.

No Millnminteriors, I am not Superman. Like I said, I have TAKEN PART in reporting this. In other words several families on my street pay attention to what is going on and when there is an issue we get together and file the complaints. But yes, over past couple years every one of these incidents happened on my street, Sterling Park really did get that bad but it is getting better.
Squmosgabriell: It is sad that you find it unbelievable that a citizen actually takes the time to participate in their community. If you live in this area and/or take the time to participate you would know that it really isn’t that hard, BOS meetings are twice a month, clean-up takes place four times a year. So it is easy for me to make time for the Boy Scouts. Reporting zoning violations is a matter of filling out a one page form and mailing it in…heck my most recent complaint was done with their new online form; even easier!

I slightly Lol'ed, the post in the Loudon Indepent was just comedically written... who does the editing anyway... What a lousy job by the editor. There are so many typos, that that led me to the conclusion of an actual illegal being the conspirator... HOW BOUT THAT!
