Fire Damages Round Hill Home

On Wednesday at 8:42 a.m., Loudoun County Department of Fire, Rescue, and Emergency Management responded to a 911 call for a house fire at 16852 Tree Crops Lane off Wilsons Gap Road near Round Hill.

Units from Round Hill, Purcellville Fire, Philomont, Lovettsville, Hamilton, and Purcellville Rescue were dispatched to the scene. The first units arriving on the scene reported a working structure fire. Additional resources were requested from Neersville, Clarke County and Mt.Weather to assist with establishing a constant supply of water. A combination of water tankers and a long hose lay to a pond were used for water supply.

The home was a two-story log cabin, single-family residence that was built in 1780 with an addition around 1820. The lone resident had awoken to the smell of smoke and discovered smoke on the second floor of the house. She evacuated the structure and called 911.

The Loudoun County Fire Marshal's office has determined that the fire, which resulted in an estimated $70,000 damage, began in the 1780 portion of the residence, originating on the second floor of the home between the chimney pipe and the fireplace's stone chimney.

During overhaul operations, LCFR Firefighter/EMTEugene Sager, who is assigned to the Purcellville Fire Station, located one of the homeowner's pet cats under a bed and removed it to safety where aid was administered. The cat is now under the care of Animal Control. As a result of the damages to the home, the resident will be staying with friends.
