The Leesburg Executive Airport was closed for about an hour yesterday after a private plane ran off the runway.
The incident occurred around 11:30 a.m. on Sunday while attempting to take off. No one was injured and no property was damaged during the incident. The airport was reopened after an hour, during which airport staff assisted in removing the private plane from the runway and moving it to a safe area.
Airport staff remained on site to insure the incident was properly turned over to the proper authorities, including the State Police and/or the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for investigative purposes.
