Ailing Dog Is Reclaimed

LEESBURG, Ariel Dr., June 20. A loose dog appeared to be elderly and had difficulty walking. An animal control officer took the animal to a veterinary hospital, where it was found to have heart disease and arthritis. The dog was medicated and taken to the animal shelter. A short time later, the owner called to report the dog missing. The owner was notified that the dog had been found, and she reclaimed it.

Stray Rottweiler Is Unclaimed

LEESBURG, Cochran Mill Rd., June 20. A stray dog that had been running loose was confined. The female Rottweiler-hound mix was thin but appeared healthy. It was not wearing identification, so an officer took it to the animal shelter. Lost-dog reports were checked; no match was found.

Skunk’s Slow Exit

STERLING, Birchfield Pl. June 21. An officer responded to a report of a skunk inside a garage. The caller could not tell whether the animal was injured or ill, and it would not leave the garage. The skunk appeared healthy and uninjured; it was returned to the wild.

Parakeet Tries Its Wings

CHANTILLY, Mink Meadows St., June 21. A loose domestic parakeet was found and confined. The bird was not wearing identification, so an officer took it to the animal shelter. Lost-pet reports were checked; no match was found.

Scary Snake Proves Harmless

ASHBURN, Mossy Brook Sq., Monday. A woman reported that a copperhead snake was trying to enter her home and was acting aggressive. An officer found that it was a harmless water snake. The snake was removed from the premises and returned to the wild.
