With Father's Day coming up, what better way to spend the weekend than by taking advantage of all the dad-and-family-friendly events Loudoun has to offer? From food and music to flying planes, there are events to suit nearly everybody's taste.

Father's Day Reception

Chicken wings and Dean Martin may seem like a quirky way to start the Father's Day weekend, but the Loudoun County Senior Center at Cascades thinks it's perfect.

Beginning Friday at 2 p.m. and concluding at 4 p.m., spend time with the family while snacking on chicken wings and watching a compilation of "Dean Martin Celebrity Roast" videos. Transportation will be available at the event's conclusion.

The Loudoun County Senior Center at Cascades is located at 21060 Whitfield Pl. in Sterling.

The event costs $3 for members and $5 for nonmembers. If you would like to register, or get more information, call 703-430-2397.

Lunch With Dad

If pizza and ice cream are more suitable to your taste, then Claude Moore Community Center is the place to be.

The center will be providing pizza as well as make-it-yourself ice cream sundaes for fathers and their children this Saturday from 11:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m.

"The kids are really proud because they feel like they are taking their dads to lunch," says Claude Moore Community Center Assistant Lenda Buchanan. "They will serve their dads pizza and show them how to make ice cream sundaes."

Buchanan says the center expects a small showing for the event.

"We try to keep it fairly small so the dads can spend time with their children," notes Buchanan. "This also allows dads to meet other dads."

The lunch costs $10 for one adult and child, and $5 for each additional child. The Claude Moore Community Center is at 46111 Loudoun Park Lane in Sterling. For more information, or to check for reservations, call (571) 258-3500.

"Become a Pilot" Family Day

Do you know what it takes to become a pilot? You can find out this weekend at The National Air and Space Museum's Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center, which is offering the opportunity to meet and converse with professional pilots.

There will be more than 80 vintage, recreational, military and home-built aircrafts on display, as well as free, hands-on activities including flight simulators and space shuttle simulators.

Also, stick around to listen to the renowned U.S. Air Force Band's high-energy vocal group, Max Impact.

"Become a Pilot" Family Day is sponsored by The Boeing Company, AFCEA NOVA and WTOP Radio 103.5 FM. Admission is free, though there is a $15 parking fee.

The event takes place from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. Saturday and is located at 14390 Air and Space Museum Pkwy in Chantilly. For more information, call 202-633-1000 or visit www.nasm.si.edu/becomeapilot/aircraft.cfm.
