The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood warning for Northern Virginia through 11 p.m. today. A severe thunderstorm watch is also in effect until 6 p.m.
Thunderstorms are expected throughout the region from mid-afternoon through mid-evening. These storms have the potential to bring heavy rainfall in very short periods of time.
Drivers should be especially careful when driving on roads covered with water, as flash flooding can be quite dangerous and happen very quickly.
