The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office is reminding residents to lock unattended vehicles and not leave expensive items inside.
Last month, 105 incidents of thefts from vehicles were reported in Loudoun, according to the sheriff’s office.
Parts of Sterling, Aldie and Ashburn had many of the cases. Items reported stolen included Global Positioning System units, digital media players and wallets. Many items were in plain view and, in some cases, the vehicles were left unlocked, the sheriff’s office said.

“Larcenies from vehicles are often a crime of opportunity,” Sheriff Steve Simpson said. “Locking your vehicle and removing or concealing high-dollar items will greatly reduce your chances of becoming a victim.”
Simpson reminded residents to park in well-lighted areas, activate car alarm systems or use anti-theft devices and immediately report any suspicious activity to the sheriff’s office at 703-777-1021.
