In a release today, the Inova Health System announced that they have filed a Certificate of Public Need (COPN) with state health officials to build an 80-bed hospital on Route 50. It also states that their plan attempts to contribute to the long-term vision outlined in the county’s comprehensive plan for healthcare services.
“Having a hospital on Route 50 is a critical need for families who don’t have quick access to acute and emergency medical care,” said Randy Kelley, CEO of Inova Loudoun Hospital. “That is one reason why the county’s Comprehensive Plan recognized Route 50 as the location where the next hospital in Loudoun County should be built.
The planned hospital would include, among other things, 10 intensive care unit specialty beds, a helipad, eight operating rooms and a 24-hour, 7-day-a-week emergency department and ambulance receiving station.
According to Kelly, pending the approval of the Loudoun County and Virginia governments, the new hospital could be open by December 2013.
