Dan J. Schardein has been hired as Loudoun County’s zoning administrator, effective Feb. 19.
Schardein comes to Loudoun County with more than 22 years of zoning experience. He has worked for Stafford County since 1986, most recently as Business Retention & Development Manager in the Department of Economic Development.
He graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from Virginia Commonwealth University, and was a founding member and first president of the Virginia Association of Zoning Officials. He is also a Certified Zoning Administrator and a graduate of the Virginia Certified Board of Zoning Appeals.
Schardein has received many awards, including the National Association of County’s Achievement Award, the Fredericksburg Area Buildings Association Stafford County Partnership Program Award and the FABA Public Service Award.
He was also elected to the Board of Directors of the Citizens Planning & Education Association of Virginia.
As Loudoun County’s Zoning Administrator, Schardein will administer and enforce the county’s Zoning Ordinance, and will head the Zoning Administration division within the Department of Building and Development.
Schardein takes over the Zoning Administrator’s post which vacated by Melinda Artman in August, when she accepted the position of Arlington County Zoning Administrator.
