The 11 a.m. service Sunday at St. James United Church of Christ marks Transfiguration Sunday, which asks us to reflect on the mission of being a community that transcends the distinctions between people — race, sexual orientation, gender, religion — and to wrestle with the radical demands of following Jesus. 10 E. Our Savior's Way Lutheran Church will present a series of 13 weekly seminars, beginning at 7:30 p.m. March 9, on making sound financial decisions. Sterling United Methodist Church will host two Ash Wednesday events Wednesday. A family supper in the fellowship hall begins at 6 p.m.; reservations are not required, and a small donation will be accepted to offset the cost of the meal. Round Hill United Methodist Church will observe Lent with an Ash Wednesday worship service at 7 p.m. Wednesday and weekly Wednesday soup suppers and worship through April 1. St. Peter's Episcopal Church will host a course called "Authentic Outreach," for churches and denominations interested in learning how to share the love of God more effectively, from 6 to 9:30 p.m. Feb. 27 and from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Feb. 28. Our Savior's Way Lutheran Church will have its second annual chili cook-off from 5 to 8 p.m. Feb. 28. Admission is free and everyone is invited to bring chili to be entered in the contest. The Sterling United Methodist Players will present "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat," a musical telling of the "coat of many colors" story in the Book of Genesis, at 7 p.m. March 6 and 7 and 2 p.m. March 8. Beth Chaverim Reform Congregation will host a potluck dinner at 6:15 p.m. March 20 to mark Shabbat Across America, an annual event in which thousands of Jews across the United States and Canada are taking part. Beth Chaverim Reform Congregation and Congregation Sha'are Shalom invite the women and girls of Loudoun County to Miriam's Seder from 2 to 4 p.m. March 22 at Beth Chaverim, 21740 Beaumeade Cir., Suite 100, Ashburn. The seder will use a Hagaddah that expands the Passover theme of liberation to encompass women's experiences in Egypt and the Exodus. The cost is $8.
