Valentine’s Day: A Family Affair

Forget the babysitter. This Valentine's Day, gather the family and celebrate with the people you love most.

Dads, bring your little girl to the Father/Daughter dance at the Claude Moore Community Center, or take the whole family to a holiday gala in Middleburg.

If your family prefers the outdoors, consider a mini-vacation to the Virginia and Pennsylvania slopes.

Father/Daughter Dance

Girls, dress up for a night with your special date at the heart and streamer-filled Claude Moore Community Center on Feb. 13 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. DJ Sky Dantinne will play fun songs for fathers and daughters - ages 2 through 10 - including the Macarena, chicken dance and hokey pokey.

In between dances, enjoy light refreshments or place your bet in the candy-guessing jar.

Claude Moore staff will take pictures of each couple, and at the end of the night will present each girl with the framed photograph and a box of candies.

The cost is $15 per couple, and $5 for a second child.

Celebrate in Middleburg at the Middleburg Community Center, where the DJ will play everything from oldies to pop on Feb. 13.

Dancing begins at 7 p.m. at $20 per family. Advance registration is required, so call 540-687-6375 to purchase tickets.

There is also a Family Valentine's Dance at the Leesburg Senior Center, featuring a performance by the Loudoun Jazz Ensemble tomorrow, Feb. 5, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Fill Our Heart With Hope

At Liberty Mountain in Fairfield, Va. (about an hour north of Leesburg), celebrate Valentine's Day by skiing, tubing and snowboarding, as well as participating in "Fill Our Heart With Hope" day.

To participate, purchase a $1 heart sticker inside the resort for the hope banner. The proceeds will be donated to the American Heart Association to benefit children with heart conditions.
