Leesburg Airport to Hold Open House and Dance
Leesburg Executive Airport will have its annual open house from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 29.
The open house is a free event with complimentary parking. The airport is at 1001 Sycolin Rd. SE, Leesburg.
The Experimental Aircraft Association’s B-17 will be on display at the airport from next Thursday to Aug. 30. Rides can be scheduled, for a fee, Aug. 28-30. Ride reservations should be made at www.b17.org.
Seven war birds, three T-6 Texans, a Yak-52, a T-28 Trojan, a Yak 3M and a Percival Provost, will be on display along with several helicopters and Piper, Cessna, Cirrus and Diamond fixed-wing aircraft.
The Hangar Dance, featuring the Radio King Orchestra, will follow the open house at 5 p.m. Tickets for the dance are $20 in advance and $25 at the door.

Eastern Loudoun Safety Meeting Scheduled
The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office will have a public safety meeting Monday for the eastern part of the county.
The meeting will be at 7 p.m. at the Cascades Library, 21030 Whitfield Pl., Potomac Falls.
The office hosts quarterly public safety meetings in each of the four service areas of the county. All residents, homeowners associations, community groups and town representatives are invited to attend.
Issues to be discussed are recent crimes and crime trends, traffic safety concerns and other public safety issues.
Each meeting is led by the sheriff’s captain who represents the service area. Also in attendance will be supervisors from the Criminal Investigations Division, the Special Operations Division, community police officers and crime prevention deputies.
A meeting for central Loudoun residents will begin at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 10 at the University Station, 45299 Research Pl., Ashburn.
Dulles South area residents will have their public meeting at 7 p.m. Oct. 20 at the Dulles South Station community room, 25216 Loudoun County Pkwy., Chantilly.
The public meeting for western Loudoun residents has not been scheduled.
Other announcements of quarterly meetings will be posted at the sheriff’s office Web site, www.loudoun.gov/sheriff.
Self-Defense Workshop Registration Open
The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office will offer its 31st Women’s Self-Defense Workshop next month.
The class is open to all female residents of Loudoun County older than 14. Space is limited to 100 participants.
“The workshop is a free session whose purpose is to educate women on sexual assault issues and rape awareness,” Sheriff Stephen O. Simpson said in a news release.
“The September session is an opportunity for all women to learn to be aware of their surroundings and how to protect themselves from becoming a victim,” he said.
The session will run from 7 to 10 p.m. Sept. 15 at the Northern Virginia Criminal Justice Academy, 45299 Research Pl., Ashburn.
Participants are asked to wear gym-style clothing and athletic shoes. Participants will be taught basic self-defense techniques through instruction, demonstration and practice.
Registration is required through the sheriff’s office at 571-258-3049.
