Crime Blotter: Destruction of Property

Authorities are investigating a suspicious event case in Waterford and a case of destruction of property in the Cascades area, according to a daily report by the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office.

Destruction of Property: Between 4 p.m. Tuesday and 9:30 a.m. Thursday, someone spray painted graffiti on sidewalks in the area of Horizon Elementary School and the Cascades Lutheran Church. The graffiti does not appear to be gang related.

Suspicious Event: Around 4 p.m. Thursday, a resident in the 4120 block of Tesla Court in Waterford reported that their alarm was triggered and was possibly set off by an unknown person trying to gain entry. There were no signs of forced entry or tampering.

Barricade Situation: Around 9:50 p.m. Thursday, deputies responded to a residence in the 24000 block of New Mountain Road in Aldie for a report of a person who was threatening their life and was possibly in possession of a firearm. The person barricaded himself inside the home. Members of the Sheriff's Office Emergency Response Team and the Hostage Negotiations Unit responded to the scene. Around 4:15 a.m., the situation was resolved peacefully and the person was transferred to a local hospital.

Burglary: Around 12:20 a.m. Friday, Oscar A. Lopez, 22, of Sterling, was charged after he allegedly entered a residence of a female acquaintance in the 100 block of North Garfield Road in Sterling. Lopez allegedly forced entry into the house and assaulted the victim. He was charged with burglary, simple assault, destruction of property and unlawful use or injury to a telephone.
