As school draws near for most kids, take this weekend to spend time with the family. Sterling is offering multiple ways to achieve that goal, from the First-Ever Block Party Blood Drive to the Fourth Annual Sterling Street Fair. If you'd rather watch a theater performance, Sterling offers "Thoroughly Modern Millie" on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
Sterling Playmakers: "Thoroughly Modern Millie"
Go back to the year 1922 in this theater performance taking place this Friday, Saturday and Sunday at Potomac Falls High School.
In "Thoroughly Modern Millie," a girl named Millie Dilmount is determined to make it big in New York City by doing anything and everything she can.
According to the Sterling Playmakers Web site, the show is "a riotous adventure that will have the whole family laughing, cheering, and tapping to the swinging beat."
Admission to the event is $15 for reserved seats and $12 for general admission.
The performance will take place Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m., and Sunday at 2 p.m.
Potomac Falls High School is located at 46400 Algonkian Parkway, in Sterling.

First-Ever Block Party Blood Drive with Inova Blood Donor Services
Donating blood will be fun this summer with INOVA's First Annual Summer Block Party Blood Drive Saturday.
"The idea is to create a real block party type of atmosphere," said INOVA Blood Services Assistant Director Rebecca Hileman. "Our ideal goal is to collect 200 units of blood. It's typical in the summer time to slow down for all the reasons you can imagine. So, we thought we would just do this and see what happens."
The block party will consist of live music, activity booths, free food and giveaways and, of course, blood donations.
The first 100 donors to schedule an appointment for Saturday will receive a $10 gas card.
Also, everyone who completes the registration and screening process will receive an "All-American Summer" t-shirt and donor gift bag.
"We've had some feedback already," Hileman said. "But my senses are that once people see what's going on and are having a good time, hopefully, they will take out their phones and call a few friends to come out. You can donate, save a few lives and just hang out for a while."
The event will take place Saturday, from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m., at the INOVA Blood Donor Services Dulles Donor Center, located at 45745 Nokes Boulevard in Sterling.
For more information and to schedule an appointment, call 1-866-BLOODSAVES (866-256-6372) or visit inova.org/donateblood.
