Executive Airport Gets Grant for Security Gates

The Leesburg Executive Airport has been awarded an $87,500 grant from the Virginia Department of Aviation, town officials said Wednesday.

The grant will pay for the installation of electric security gates.

The project entails equipping the airport's four vehicle gates with electric motors and card readers that are tied to the airport's security system.

The project is expected to go out to bid soon.

Services Board Seeks Appointee to Fill Vacancy

The Loudoun County Community Services Board is anticipating at least one vacancy for a term that expires June 30, 2011. An appointee would be eligible to serve up to three additional three-year terms.

The board, appointed by and accountable to the Board of Supervisors, sets policy for and administers the provision of community-based services for people with mental illness, intellectual disabilities and substance abuse disorders. The responsibility includes oversight of the Loudoun Department of Mental Health, Mental Retardation and Substance Abuse Services.

Board members are drawn from the county and represent a variety of backgrounds and interests that might give them insight into the issues that concern the board.

By law, a third of the members of a board must be consumers of a mental health, mental retardation or substance abuse service (although not necessarily one provided by the board) or be the family member of someone receiving a service. No member can be employed by a Community Services Board agency or by any agency that receives funding from the Community Services Board.

Members attend monthly Community Services Board meetings, and each member is expected to serve on one or more committees and to attend the meetings of the groups on which they serve.

The Community Services Board will be recruiting and interviewing prospective members beginning in October and will recommend qualified applicants to the Board of Supervisors. The supervisors will make the final determination of who is appointed.

Applicants should visit the Community Services Board page of the county's Web site at www.loudoun.gov/csb.
