An Oddly Quiet Mountain Lion
LOVETTSVILLE, Rickard Rd., July 31. An animal control officer responded to a report of an injured mountain lion inside a shed. When the officer arrived, the animal was not moving. Upon closer inspection, the officer found that it was a large stuffed toy tiger. Because the toy posed no threat to residents or pets in the area, it was left in the shed.
Hit by Car, Cat Goes Into Hiding
ASHBURN, Renova Terr., Aug. 1. A cat was reported to have been hit by a car. An animal control officer met with the cat’s pet sitter, who said the cat had run under a porch after being hit and would not come out. The officer removed the cat from beneath the porch and found that it was injured. It was taken to a veterinary hospital for evaluation and treatment.
Lab Mix Puppy Taken to Shelter
LEESBURG, Rudy Terr., Aug. 2. An animal control officer responded to a report of a puppy running loose. The officer found an approximately 4-month-old black male Labrador retriever mix. The puppy, which did not have identification, was taken to the animal shelter. Lost-dog reports were checked; no match was found.
Huskies Take to the Road
PURCELLVILLE, Harper’s Ferry Rd., Aug. 3. An animal control officer found two Siberian husky-type dogs running in a roadway. The officer leashed the dogs, which did not have identification or microchips. The officer took the dogs to the animal shelter. The owner called to report them as missing a short time later, and they were returned to their owner.
Injured Hawk Found in Yard
LEESBURG, North St., Aug. 4. An animal control officer responded to a report of an injured hawk in a back yard. The officer confined the bird and took it to a veterinary hospital for evaluation and treatment.
