The Loudoun County Fire Marshal's Office ruled today that arson was the cause of Monday's fire in Sterling Park that caused an estimated $30,000 in damage.
On Monday evening fire-and-rescue crews from Sterling, Cascades, Moorefield, Fairfax County and Dulles Airport responded to 220 Oakgrove Road for a reported house fire.
A neighbor contacted Loudoun County Emergency Communications Center after noticing smoke coming from the abandoned home. First arriving crews encountered a small fire located in the home. Emergency personnel were able to quickly extinguish the fire and contain it to the area of origin within 10 minutes. There were no injuries to civilians or emergency personnel.
The home had been abandoned since late March of this year and was posted as uninhabitable by Loudoun County Building and Development.
The Fire Marshal's Office has determined the fire to have been set intentionally and is requesting the public's assistance with information on whom may have set this fire. Any information should be reported to the Loudoun County Crime Solvers hotline at 703-777-1919 or toll-free at 1-877-777-1931. All reported information is confidential.
