Loudoun Valley couldn't hold on to the ball or their early lead in a rainy homecoming game Saturday, losing 34-8 to the Osbourn Eagles.
The field looked more like a mud puddle, and the Vikings fumbled the ball 10 times in the game. Though they managed to recover all but three of those, the ball-control problem kept them from gaining serious yardage.
Running back Chris Music did the heavy work for the Vikings, carrying the ball on 36 of Valley’s 52 plays, but slowed by a wet field and a quick Eagles defense, he could only pound out 77 yards.
The Vikings drew first blood when the defense forced a turnover on downs deep in Eagles territory on Osbourne's first drive, and the offense went 24 yards in five plays to score. That would be their only score of the day. Loudoun Valley’s defense recovered four Osbourne fumbles, but the offense failed to make anything out of the turnovers.
The Eagles tied it up late in the first quarter, giving the ball to running back Jerell McFadden on all but one play of a 63-yard drive. After a Loudoun Valley fumble was recovered by Osbourne, the Eagles fired up their passing game to score quickly and take the lead, 16-8.

Osbourne widened their lead to 11 at the end of the half when kicker Tyler Schultze managed to send a 31-yard attempt through the uprights despite the downpour.
In the second half, the Vikings defense couldn't stop the Eagles in the air or on the ground. Osbourne's receivers took advantage of the slippery field to find holes in the defense, and quarterback Thomas Keith threw for 143 yards in horrible throwing conditions.
Valley's offense only gained two first downs in the second half, one of those on an Osbourne offside penalty. Pressure by the Osbourne defense put a stop to the run game, and the Vikings seemed afraid to test the passing game in the rain. Quarterback Iain Mottice threw only three passes, including one completion and one interception.
With the loss, Loudoun Valley failed to build on last week's victory. Next week they take on Liberty at home.
