As predicted, more than an hour before Barack Obama was scheuled to speak, traffic was backed up as crowds make their way to Leesburg's Ida Lee Park to see the Democratic presidential candidate speak.
Around 4 p.m. traffic on the Greenway was backed up to Exit 3 going west. The gates for Wednesday's rally opened around 3 p.m., and Obama began speaking shortly after 5:30 p.m.
"So far everything's been gridlocked," said Leesburg police officer Michael Kibble Wednesday afternoon. "Every road coming into town is clustered."

Shortly before 3 p.m. traffic began backing up heading west on Route 7 and north on U.S. 15 as motorists traveled to the rally. The Leesburg Police Department recommended that commuters through the area use alternative routes until 9 p.m. to help ease traffic.
Town officials predicted that the event would draw a crowd of 10,000 or more and the lines showed it. Around 4 p.m. Living in LoCo's Erica Garman reported that attendees were waiting at least 45 minutes to go through security for the rally. Other reports say that some waited over two hours.
Ide Lee Park Recreation Center remained open during the event for normal activities. However, all classes scheduled after 2 p.m. were canceled.

Tsk, tsk - tacky, tacky. Complaining about traffic and classes.
Don'tcha know that tomorrow "the sky will open, the light will come down, celestial choirs will be singing, and everyone will know we should do the right thing and the world will be perfect" [kudos to Hillary].
Wonder if folks complained about traffic and classes when the other Messiah came to town. Of course, He didn't have the media singing "hosanna in the highest" like THIS obamessiah.
Oh well, He arrived at the wrong time to get all this adoring worldwide exposure. When even Hamas is singing the praises of "The One" and rooting for his election, Leesburg should be grateful for 'his' presence and bow and scrape before the 'anointed-by-the- media' One.
As for me, I'm staying home and watching I Love Lucy reruns, a much more enjoyable use of my time.

Everybody is entitled to their opinion, so play nice..no matter how dumb they may sound. All I ask...is do some research. The internet is an amazing tool. I think facts are hard to argue. Archived articles will state (facts, dates and times) that our financial woes and concerns with terrorism started during the Clinton error. Here's an excerpt from a NY Times article dated 9/30/99. "Fannie Mae, the nation's biggest underwriter of home mortgages, has been under increasing pressure from the Clinton Administration to expand mortgage loans among low and moderate income people and felt pressure from stock holders to maintain its phenomenal growth in profits." Do research, make an educated decision and don't believe everything you hear...ebethfuller. There's a saying,'believe half of what you see and half of what you hear'. Research and compare. Oh and thank Mr. Biden for saying that something(?) catastrophic will happen from terrorist groups or another country to 'test' Mr. Obama. You understand that this' something' will affect all of us. If you have forgotten...9/11...we will always be involved in some sort of military situation from this point on. Our way of life will never be the same. Other countries despise us and think we're weak. As soon as they see an opening they will attack. Regardless of what anyone thinks of the US, it's still the best place on earth! The majority of Americans don't even understand what the rest of the world lives like and take for granted the luxury of their freedom. We can have open discussions about politics, religion, race... and not live in fear of retribution. Anyway...got a little carried away......Do research!

I just want to understand what your typing at this time. Also you want 4 additional years of this crazyness, correct? You may want to move to a more rural area and live because that junk that's coming out of your month make you sound like you missing several parts of your brain and really need sometype of help. Maybe Obama can do something better then what we been seeing for the last 8 yrs, we can not go any lower. i.e. Credit, Home & War crisis. The Bush admin appears to forgotten that they serve the people and not there own schedule, it is time to get this train but on track. My suggestion would be to take the vitriol out of your postings and look at the plan each of the candidates has to offer. For example, if you made less than $250,000 and you stand to get a tax cut, that would probably be something you may want to support. If you would like your current health benefits to be taxed, there would be a different candidate you may want to give your vote to. I always thought that is how rational voters decide who they cast their vote for instead of insulting the other party or calling the candidate names.

Perhaps you should reread the posting. What I said was to do some research before just randomly making a choice. I'd also suggest that you proof read your statement before posting it so you at least makes sense and respond accordingly. You expect 'problems' to be resolved so quickly? Well, then you must love the health care reform that Hillary and company put together when they were there for 8 years. Oh that's right, she failed miserably with that project. So, why didn't they fix that? Government in general has to change in more ways than one. But, if you want to believe that Obama has a magic wand and will 'fix' everything, you are sadly mistaken. He's a sketchy character. Again I say...do some research and be an educated voter.

As we know, educated voters vote for Democrats.
It's simply the truth - if you check the educational demographic breakdown, the higher the education level, the more likely to vote for Democrats.
I know the Republicans will call us elitist, but I'm not ashamed to be an intelligent, educated individual. Apparently the Republicans don't like intelligence or education or they wouldn't have W, McCain, and Palin on a national ticket. The Republicans are some dumb folks voting for some dumb folks.

It is a shame that a presidential election divides the country so. All of this hatred and bitterness is unnecessary. I'm afraid the future of this country is very bleak. What is going to happen when your candidate loses? Can have civil discourse and disagreements? Neither candidate is more pro-America. Both candidates have the best intentions to make this country better. We complain about the grid lock in government; but help foster it with partisan attacks, name calling and mud slinging. We are the United States of America! If we want to continue to be that “beacon on a hill”; we need to start respecting differences of opinions. It is time to stop letting both parties use us to get in power then deliver nothing. Get out there and do something to make a difference.

In regard to Fannie May, you cut out this sentence of the article you were quoting and here it is in case you just forgot “In addition, banks, thrift institutions and mortgage companies have been pressing Fannie Mae to help them make more loans to so-called subprime borrowers.” And why should we stop with Clinton? Nixon, Johnson and FDR all had a hand in the creation of the monster of Freddie and Fanny as have other presidents except GW Bush I guess.
In regards to the comments of Joe Biden. My fellow prisoners, Joe Biden (Democratic nominee for dude in charge of the Senate) has been known to have some bouts of verbal diarrhea over the years, but I look at the first sentence of the statement in question. "It will not be six months before the world tests Barack Obama like they did John Kennedy.” I wonder if he was talking about challenges presidents faced early in their terms like W did with the Chinese spy plane incident, like Clinton had with Somalia like Reagan had with Libya and Kennedy with the Bay of Pigs? Hmm no he must have just been trying to attack his own running mate.
I agree political discourse has been damaged, for the past 8 years the only conversation from the people in charge and the McCain campaign has been your with us or against us, you don’t understand and you must be afraid, Oh and 9-11 9-11 9-11. I DO understand and the only thing I carry any fear of is a continuation of the policies of the most corrupt, inept and destructive administration in the history of this country. Oh yeah, thats not a fact, just the results of a poll of 109 historians.
Almost forgot, please congratulate senator McCain on his Al Qaeda endorsement.

Hate seems to grip a lot of GOP voters here on this blog. It is the theme of their campaign. If you can't say anything nice...then say something vile a few times and see if it sticks.
I am a christian, values voter, who makes no claim that the Dems or Republicans are more favored by Jesus nor more loyal to their country. I love Jesus and I love my coutnry and thank God we have the First Ademendment so we can say all these things without thinking someone is going to punish us.
What is happening now is historical moment. I can see one voting for or against a nominee for all kinds of reasons, race, or religion should not be among them.
Colin Powell risked his life for our country. He deserves our respect. He is one Republican I would have voted for President. I am white, 64 and a retired social worker from DC and Maryland area. I am a Dem who has voted across party lines. When the right man or women for the job appears on the scence that is who I vote for. This election cycle it is Obama. The man whose words ring clear and steady for me.
I think we should all pray for Obama's grandmother who raised him and is near death. He leaves tomorrow for Hawaii. Pray that his time with her is special and comforting.

To mark.riggins: you take quotes out of context and try to make something of them. Typical republican attack that is meaningless to those of us that actually read and absorb information.
to fballfan (anonymous): You fail to mention that it was a republican majority congress that wrote and passed the de-regulation legislation for Fannie and Freddie and that Clinton couldn't veto every bill if he wanted to keep a balanced budget and get some of his own agenda approved. I think you should do research on non-partisan sites and on partisan sites to get the real information you urge people to obtain. Because brother you are simply regurgitating a partisan republican talking point with no nuance at all. But hey, I'm used to hearing that stuff I watched a lot of Palin rallies.

I used to be a Republican, now I am an independent.
Why?
Because in the past 15 years the Republican party has produced little beyond UGLY COMMENTS like the ones on this story.
You either support that sort of un-American uglyness, or you stand as an American and VOTE AGAINST it!
If you are still a vocal supporter of uglyness, please look beyond your party's fabrications and seek the truth. Maybe you too will come to decide that the only way to fix the Republican party is to cease supporting it.
It is no longer that hard for me to contemplate voting for Obama, he is really the only candidate in this race with real ideas. McCain is spending his campaign parsing Obama's words -- rather than present new ideas to get us out of the incredible messes that 8 years have brought.
Ideology, ineptness and arrogance. That's what we got the last 8 years.
If all you can do is parse the other candidates words, lie about him and fling mud -- then fling away man, fling away. It's not mud you are throwing it's your own dignity.

Excellent book - "Dreams from my Father" - A candid account of Barack's journey from youth to adulthood written by him. The quotes are from his youth as he struggled to reconcile the contradictions he faced trying to understand two worlds and his place. Fortunately, his intellect and heart eventually grew to understand those attributes which bind us together rather than divide us. His eventual decision to become a community organizer despite other well paying job offers attracted by his Harvard degree allowed him to stay close to the people. Perhaps his unique ability to understand the racial problems which have divided our country for so long may raise us to that level of dialogue which allows us to communicate with one another freely and respectfully - without fear of verbal punches. Then, perhaps, we can work together to resolve the problems which many of us have tried to avoid by moving away from them. Idealist? Maybe - but that's how America was born.

Around 1979 Obama started college at Occidental in California . He is very
open about his two years at Occidental, he tried all kinds of drugs and was
wasting his time but, even though he had a b rilliant mind, did not apply
himself to his studies."Barry" (that was the name he used all his life)
during this time had two roommates, Muhammad Hasan Chandoo and Wahid Hamid,
both from Pakistan . During the summer of 1981, after his second year in
college, he made a "round the world" trip. Stopping to see his mother in
Indonesia , next Hyderabad in India , three weeks in Karachi , Pakistan
where he stayed with his roommate's family, then off to Africa to visit his
father's family.
My question - Where did he get the money for this trip? Neither I, nor any
one of my children would have had money for a trip like this when they where
in college. When he came back he started school at Columbia University in
New York . It is at this time he wants everyone to call him Barack - not
Barry.
Do you know what the tuition is at Columbia ? It's not cheap! to say the
least. Where did he get money for tuition? Student Loans? Maybe.
After Columbia , he went to Chicago to work as a Community Organizer for
$12,000. a year. Why Chicago ? Why not New York ? He was already living in
New York .
By "chance" he met Antoin "Tony" Rezko, born in Aleppo Syria , and a real
estate developer in Chicago . Rezko has been convicted of fraud and bribery
this year. Rezko, was named "Entrepreneur of the Decade" by the
Arab-American Business and Professional Association".
About two years later, Obama entered Harvard Law School . Do you have any
idea what tuition is for Harvard Law School ? Where did he get the money for
Law School ? More student loans?
After Law school, he went back to Chicago . Rezko offered him a job, which
he turned down. But, he did take a job with Davis, Miner, Barnhill &
Galland. Guess what? They represented "Rezar" which is Rezko's firm. Rezko
was one of Obama's first major financial contributors when he ran for office
in Chicago.
Posted by clibbybaseball (anonymous) on October 23, 2008 at 9:59 a.m. (Suggest removal)
In 2003, Rezko threw an early fundraiser for Obama which Chicago Tribune
reporter David Mendelland claims was instrumental in providing Obama with
"seed money" for his U.S. Senate race.
In 2005, Obama purchased a new home in Kenwoood District of Chicago for
$1.65 million (less than asking price). With ALL those Student Loans - Where
did he get the money for the property? On the same day Rezko's wife, Rita,
purchased the adjoining empty lot for full price. The London Times reported
that Nadhmi Auchi, an Iraqi-born billionaire loaned Rezko $3.5 million three
weeks before Obama's new home was purchased. Obama met Nadhmi Auchi many
times with Rezko.
Now, we have Obama running for President. Valerie Jarrett was Michele
Obama's boss. She is now Obama's chief advisor and he does not make any
major decisions without talking to her first. Where was Jarrett born? Ready
for this? Shiraz , Iran !
Do we see a pattern here? Or am I going crazy?
On May 10, 2008 The Times reported, Robert Malley advisor to Obama was
"sacked" after the press found out he was having regular contacts with
"Hamas", which controls Gaza and is connected with Iran .
This past week, buried in the back part of the papers, Iraqi newspapers
reported that during Obama's visit to Iraq , he asked their leaders to do
nothing about the war until after he is elected, and he will "Take care of
things".
Oh, and by the way, remember the college roommates that where born in
Pakistan ? They are in charge of all those "small" Internet campaign
contribution for Obama.
Where is that money coming from? The poor and middle class in this country?
Or could it be from the Middle East?
And the final bit of news.
On September 7, 2008, The Washington Times posted a verbal slip that was
made on "This Week" with George Stephanapoulos. Obama on talking about his
religion said, "My Muslim faith".
When questioned, "he made a mistake". Some mistake!
All of the above information I got online. If you would like to check it -
Wikipedia, encyclopedia, Barack Obama; Tony Rezko; Valerie Jarrett: Daily
Times - Obama visited Pakistan in 1981; The Washington Times - September 7,
2008; The Times May 10, 2008.
Now the BIG question - If I found out all this information on my own, why
haven't all of our "intelligent" members of the press been reporting this?
A phrase that keeps ringing in my ear -
