Visitors on the Loudoun Valley Farm Color Tour this past weekend were able to enjoy a variety of activities from wine-tasting to scarecrow-making.

At Temple Hall Farm Regional Park, in Leesburg, tour-goers could ride ponies, look at various farm animals and ride in a tractor-drawn hayride. One of the most popular autumn activities at the park is the corn cannon, an air-powered pipe that shoots out corn cobs.

"It's definitely popular," Katrina Green, an employee at the park, said. "It's the joy of knocking down a pumpkin."

The vineyards on the farm tour helped support the United Way.

"We don't normally charge a tasting fee, but on the farm tour, we're charging a $5 tasting fee and donating it to the United Way," co-owner Colleen Berg said. Co-owner Doug Fabbioli said early Sunday that the vineyard had collected $300 to $400 dollars for the charity.

The tour has helped the vineyard as well.

"Yesterday, I think we saw more people out here than we've ever seen before," Fabbioli said.

At the Master Gardener's Demonstration Garden in Ida Lee Park, families could make scarecrows together out of old clothes, muslin and straw.

"Every single family has been so positive, they've had so much fun," Master Gardener volunteer Mary Ann Henderson said. "They usually end up in the garden. It's a good introduction to the demonstration garden - no one really knows we're here usually."

Assorted farm goods from produce to llama fur yarn to pecan pies were available for sale on the tour.
