Sterling Fire Under Investigation

The Loudoun County Fire Marshal's Office is investigating a fire that occurred early morning Tuesday in Sterling, and ruled a second fire in Ashburn accidental.

The fire was reported at 4:31 a.m. at the Getty Gas Station at 209 East Holly Avenue in Sterling Park. The Loudoun County Emergency Communications Center received a 911 call from a resident reporting that they smelled smoke. Fire-Rescue personnel from Sterling were dispatched to investigate and discovered smoke coming from the gas station. Additional crews were dispatched to assist from Cascades, Ashburn, Moorefield and Fairfax County.

Within 30 minutes, firefighters had the fire under control and remained on scene for two hours to complete salvage and overhaul. The damage to the building and its contents is estimated at $150,000.

Also on Tuesday, a residential structure fire was reported around 6:59 a.m. The fire was ruled accidental by the Loudoun County Fire Marshal's Office. A malfunctioning outdoor fireplace contributed to the fire at 19880 Bethpage Court in Ashburn.

Fire-Rescue crews from Ashburn, Moorefield, Leesburg, and Cascades responded to the residence and extinguished the fire within minutes. The residence sustained minor smoke and fire damage, which is estimated at $10,000.

There were no reported injuries to emergency personnel or civilians in either incident.
