Verizon officials are continuing to investigate a systems issue that caused some Round Hill customers to lose phone service for most of this afternoon, said a Catherine Hogan (Lewis), a spokesperson with Verizon.
"We will know more about the cause after they investigate the problem," said Hogan. Verizon is currently testing the fix and verifying it's going to work permanently before they look into the cause.
Service was restored by 4:30 p.m. today. The outage began around 1:30 p.m. and Verizon worked through the afternoon to restore service.
"It was an intermittent problem," said Hogan, "not everybody was dead in the water, the service just wasn't consistent."
During the outage, the Round Hill residents that were affected, which Verizon estimates at less than 200 homes, were unable to dial 911 for emergency services. Fire and rescue personnel were standing by to provide assistance at the Round Hill Volunteer Fire-Rescue Station.
