Loudoun Valley's defense came up with some big stops Friday night, but couldn't hold on with little support from the offense, as the Vikings lost to the Fauquier Falcons, 28-0.
The Vikings' offensive line struggled, being consistently dominated in the trenches. Loudoun Valley quarterback Iain Mottice was under pressure all game, and the Vikings could not run the ball, gaining only 3 yards as a team.
The defense started the night strong, forcing a turnover on the first play from scrimmage. The offense only went backwards on their first drive, however, and had to punt the ball away. Fauquier capitalized with a 64-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Brandon Thompson.
Loudoun Valley had to punt again on their next possession after once again only losing yardage. The defense came up big when junior Anthony Wiley pounced on another Fauquier fumble, giving the Vikings good field position. They couldn't make use of it, however, as pressure on the quarterback forced Loudoun Valley into their third straight three-and-out.
The Vikings' defense once again came up strong, stopping the Falcons on fourth and one to regain possession of the ball, but their next possession ended on an interception. The Falcons began their possession at Loudoun County's 13-yard line, but the defense stayed strong, forcing the Falcons into a field goal attempt which failed.
The defense had to go right back onto the field after senior running back Colin Owens fumbled on the first play of the next drive. Again, they held Fauquier to a field goal attempt, which was blocked by junior Chris Regan.
The offense came close on the next drive, getting inside the Falcons' 10-yard line, but stalled in the red zone and missed their field goal attempt. The Vikings defense forced the Falcons to punt on their next two drives, but when the second punt was muffed and Fauquier recovered, they were in easy scoring position and got their second touchdown with 42 seconds remaining in the half.
The second half followed the same pattern as the first. Loudoun Valley played solid defense, but couldn’t make up for the lack of production on offense.
Mottice threw for 119 yards and two interceptions on 12 of 35 passing. Senior Geoff Holden led the receivers with 62 yards on 5 receptions. He was also the leading rusher with three carries for four yards.
Lee Leads Park View to a Big Win Over Freedom
Park View quarterback Brandon Lee completed only seven passes and ran the ball only six times, but he made the most of it.
Lee had four touchdown passes and ran for two more scores as the visiting Patriots beat Freedom, 41-13, in South Riding Friday night.
The Park View quarterback had 193 yards passing and 90 yards rushing to lead an offense that accumulated nearly 500 yards. The Patriots (2-3, 1-1 Virginia AA Dulles District) bounced back from last week's 21-4 loss to Loudoun County by setting a season high for points.

In other games, Ray Taliaferro had a two-yard touchdown run to account for all the scoring in Briar Woods' 7-0 victory over Dominion (1-4, 1-1). The Falcons (4-1, 1-1) bounced back from a loss to Broad Run the week before. In Reston, Patrick Thompson rushed for three touchdowns and passed for another to lead Stone Bridge (6-0, 3-0) to a 51-6 win over South Lakes.
