Board Drops Proposal for Admissions Tax
Loudoun officials have scrapped a proposal to charge an admission tax at events in the county, noting concerns among nonprofit groups that rely on entrance fees for funding.
The Board of Supervisors had said earlier that it wanted authority from the General Assembly to impose the levy, but the board removed the request from its legislative agenda during its meeting Tuesday.
If approved, the tax would have allowed the county to charge up to 10 percent on entry fees to museums, gardens, concerts, sporting competitions and other events.
Health Meetings Planned for Western Loudoun
The Loudoun County Health Department is holding three meetings in western Loudoun over the next two weeks to get residents' input on the needs of their communities.
The meetings will be from 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow at the Neersville Fire and Rescue Company station, 11762 Harpers Ferry Rd., Purcellville; Dec. 2 at Middleburg Town Hall, 10 W. Marshall St.; and Dec. 3 at the Purcellville Library, 220 E. Main St.
The health department is organizing the discussions because western Loudoun's rural landscape and sparse population have made it challenging to find community groups to take on that role, said David Goodfriend, health department director.
Goodfriend said he encourages residents to attend the discussion groups. "We don't want your priorities to not be heard," he said.

Session on Home Loans Offered in Sterling
Two Loudoun County programs that provide home rehabilitation loans to low- and moderate-income families will be the topic of a seminar at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 1 at the Sterling Library, 120 Enterprise St.
One program offers loans that are forgiven or interest-free, and the other offers low-interest loans with 10- to 20-year terms.
The seminar is free, but space is limited. To reserve a spot, call 571-258-3819.
