Rainfall Brings Lift To Water Shortage Alert

Loudoun County Administrator Kirby Bowers on Friday lifted the water shortage alert for eastern Loudoun, thanks to recent rainfall.

As of May 9, Goose Creek was slightly below its median water flow and the Beaverdam Reservoir was nearly full, a spokesman for Loudoun Water said. County officials said that both reservoirs were probably full after last weekend’s rain, although measurements have not been taken since then.

Although the alert has been lifted, Loudoun Water advised customers to practice water conservation.

“Customers should not view this as a call to use water with abandon,” said Dale Hammes, the utility’s general manager. “It’s still important for everyone to be mindful of how they use water and to not waste it.”

Loudoun Water is asking that customers with odd-numbered addresses water their lawns Wednesdays and Saturdays, that customers with even-numbered addresses water Thursdays and Sundays, and that commercial customers irrigate Tuesdays and Fridays.

Leesburg Interchange Opens to Traffic

A new interchange off the Dulles Greenway in Leesburg opened to traffic Thursday.

The toll-free interchange, built by developer Keane Enterprises, provides westbound motorists a direct connection to town and relieves congestion on the Route 7 Bypass.

Battlefield Parkway from Sycolin Road to the Dulles Greenway and Miller Drive from the Greenway to Tolbert Lane also opened to traffic Thursday.

Keane Enterprises also developed Oaklawn in Leesburg, a 165-acre mixed-use development at Battlefield Parkway and the Greenway.

The site is also being considered by county officials as a location for Loudoun’s government center.

Purcellville Police Warn Of Men Going Door-to-Door

The Purcellville Police Department said last week that residents should be wary of three men going door-to-door offering to seal driveways for a cheap price.

The men will complete the task poorly, then request payment that is thousands of dollars higher than they originally quoted, authorities said. They said the men seem to be targeting elderly residents and were last seen driving a Ford F-150.

Anyone who has seen the men or has information about them is asked to call 540-338-7700.

DMV Offices to Close For Memorial Day

Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles offices will be closed May 26 for Memorial Day. Customers may access some services, such as vehicle registration, at www.dmvnow.com.

Starting July 1, customers who renew their vehicle registration online will receive a $1 discount. Customers who renew in person will pay $5 per renewal. Transactions can also be conducted by calling 888-337-4782.

Also beginning July 1, driver’s licenses will be valid for eight years instead of five.
