The parent of a student at Round Hill Elementary School in western Loudoun County was detained this morning after she entered the school building with three loaded guns in her handbag, authorities said.
The woman did not take the weapons out of her bag and did not threaten anyone, Loudoun schools spokesman Wayde B. Byard said.
She was acting erratically, however, and school officials called the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office for assistance. The woman had come to the school for a scheduled conference with an administrator.
While questioning the 45-year-old woman, deputies learned she had weapons in her bag, sheriff’s spokesman Kraig Troxell said.

The woman, who has not been identified, was quietly led out of the school, and students were not aware of the incident, Byard said.
After a mental evaluation, the woman was committed to Inova Loudoun Hospital’s Cornwall Campus in Leesburg on a temporary detention order, Troxell said.
The Loudoun Commonwealth Attorney’s office is reviewing the incident with sheriff’s officials to determine if any charges will be brought.
