Battling injuries and encountering a different stalwart virtually every night in the competitive Cedar Run District, Battlefield lost consecutive softball games last month and dropped from atop the league standings.
But last night in Haymarket, the Bobcats reintroduced themselves to first place, rallying in the seventh inning to beat ninth-ranked Loudoun Valley, 3-2, in a game that broke a tie between Battlefield and the Vikings atop the Cedar Run.
“We’re back,” Battlefield catcher Courtney Liddle said.
“We’re back, and we’re hungry, and we’re going to finish this thing out.”
Battlefield’s Kelsey Sayers scored the winning run on a two-out error by Loudoun Valley (13-3, 9-3) in the bottom of the seventh.
The victory puts the Bobcats (15-3, 10-2) in the driver’s seat for the automatic Northwest Region berth that accompanies the Cedar Run regular season title.
Battlefield must beat Stonewall Jackson and Osbourn Park to clinch.
