Sara E. “Sally” Bolton has withdrawn from the Middleburg Town Council race, according to the Loudoun County Electoral Board.
Bolton, owner of the Corner Garden & Flower Shop in Middleburg, was slated to face incumbents C.C. “Bundles” Murdock and Trowbridge Littleton and newcomer Kathy jo Shea in Tuesday’s election. But with her departure, only three candidates remain for three seats on the council.

In a withdrawal letter submitted to the electoral board Wednesday, Bolton said that family issues prompted her decision to pull out.
“Very recent family considerations will make it impossible to give this job the time and focus it will require,” she wrote.
Reached today at her flower shop, Bolton declined to elaborate.
“I felt that I would not be able to do the job appropriately due to what had arisen in my personal life,” she said.
Since Bolton’s withdrawal letter was submitted after election ballots were printed, her name will appear on Tuesday’s ballot, the electoral board said. However, a sign notifying voters of her withdrawal will be posted at Town Hall on election day.
