Loudoun County Public Schools superintendent Edgar B. Hatrick III has a message to residents of western Loudoun: The School Board has not abandoned plans for a new high school north of Purcellville.

In a letter posted today on the school district's Web site, Hatrick said an e-mail has been widely distributed in western Loudoun that states the School Board is no longer interested in building Woodgrove High School.

"Nothing could be further from the truth," Hatrick wrote in the letter.

He wrote that the school district is waiting for litigation between the county and the Town of Purcellville to be resolved. The Supreme Court of Virginia is expected to make a decision in the case later this year.

"When litigation hurdles are removed, the school system expects construction of

Woodgrove to begin," Hatrick wrote.

The initial e-mail also stated that the School Board has moved a new proposed high school north of Leesburg ahead of the Woodgrove project. Hatrick said that's also not the case.

Hatrick also said no plans have been nailed down regarding schools that students could be assigned to if crowding becomes too extreme in western Loudoun.

Anyone with questions about Woodgrove High School or other Loudoun schools is asked to contact the LCPS Public Information Office at schools@loudoun.k12.va.us or 571-252-1040.
