HCA Virginia announced late Wednesday that it will try again on its attempt to build a medical center in Broadlands.

The company said it will dismiss its legal claims against Loudoun County's previous Board of Supervisors for denying the company's zoning request.

In 2005, the Board of Supervisors denied HCA permission to build the 164-bed Broadlands Regional Medical Center at the Dulles Greenway and Route 659, five miles from Inova's hospital. Supervisors who opposed the project said a 24-hour facility would create noise and traffic problems for neighboring communities.

HCA has received a certificate of public need from the state for the Broadlands hospital, and the lawsuit trial was scheduled to begin Monday in Loudoun County Circuit Court.

HCA said it will resubmit its zoning request to build the Ashburn hospital.

“This action gives the Board an opportunity to evaluate our application without pre-conditions or the pressure of looming litigation,” said Margaret Lewis, president of HCA’s Capital Division. “We look forward to a fair and impartial review of our application.”

Wow, we finally have a Board of Supervisors who know how to negotiate with big business. I am impressed!

I am more impressed that the motive is for increased healthcare and options for our County.

Great job BOS! Now on to a civil debate about approving this project. Hold their feet to the fire about the proffered Belmont Ridge Rd improvements.

Lee, no one is going to legislate the time frame a hospital is built on 50. Neither HCA nor INOVA can financially justify a hospital down there (yet). Both have run economic models and publicly stated, at this time and into the foreseeable future, Rt 50 doesn't have the population to support a full hospital. Following your chant would mean Loudoun won't see a another hospital for years to come. By the way, that would suit INOVA's motives just fine. You need to get up to speed on some of these details my friend.
