Fires Do Combined $340,000 in Damage

Two fires that occurred Tuesday in Loudoun did a combined $340,000 in damage.

A lightning strike started a fire Tuesday afternoon that did about $300,000 in damage to a barn in western Loudoun County. Another fire was started by a generator in the back of a commercial truck causing $40,000 in damage.

Barn Fire

Firefighters responded at 4:18 p.m. to the barn fire at 36502 Kidwell Road in the Neersville area. Heavy smoke and flames were coming from the barn, which was 100 feet by 60 feet in size.

Loudoun Fire spokeswoman Mary Maguire said 16 horses and several workers were in the barn when the fire started, though no people or horses were injured.

Firefighters had the blaze under control after about three hours. The fire spread quickly through the roof area and involved most of the barn, Maguire said.
