Loudoun Valley junior Kiersten Pappas defeated Kathleen Dawson of Ocean Lakes, 6-0, 6-2, in the quarterfinals of the Virginia AAA girls' tennis singles tournament at Jefferson District Park in Falls Church on Thursday.
Pappas, playing in her first state tournament match and coming off a victory in the Northwest Region singles tournament, was in control throughout the match against the Eastern Region runner-up.

"I was a little nervous before, but I just got out there and was hitting my shots," Pappas said. "It was good."
She will next face South County's Michelle Nguyen, the Northern Region champion, on Friday at 9 a.m. at Jefferson District Park.
