This weekend, go out and hit the sidewalks to search out the deals of the season at the Middleburg Summer Sidewalk Sale. Or, check out the Summer Thunder Cruise-In at Franklin Park, an annual car party that's trying to bring a thousand antique cars and roadsters out.
Find Deals on the Sidewalk
If you have the urge to shop, but need a little more incentive than the mall offers, consider putting a visit to Middleburg on your agenda this weekend.
Middleburg businesses are banding together to clean out summer merchandise and convince shoppers hard times do not always mean high prices.
The Middleburg Summer Sidewalk Sale will take place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday throughout the historical part of town.
"It is a way for the shopkeepers to clean out their closets and make room for the upcoming [season]," JoAnne Hazard, president of the Middleburg Business and Professional Association, said.
In addition to about 30 booths from local Middleburg businesses, seven stores will also be giving away gas cards.
"Our idea is that if you make the drive out here, we'll help you get home," Hazard said.
Or feel free to stay the night. Two local hotels - The Red Fox Inn and Middleburg Country Inn - are offering discounts up to 50 percent off rooms if shoppers stay two nights.
Middleburg shops highlighted several of the sales. Expect savings up to 75 percent off at Tully Rector as well as their very popular shoe sale. There are sales up to 20 percent off of everything at Felton Jewelers. Salamander Touch will be offering 20 percent off of all Mistral Bath & Body products.
Other stores participating include, Lou Lou, Beyond the Pale, the Fun Shop, Annie's, Books & Crannies, Journeyman, The Country Way, Santangelo & Sandridge and Byrne Gallery.
Hazard also stressed the town of Middleburg is quite a draw. "I think it is worth coming out just to see the town, our quaint town of Middleburg."

Annual Car Show
This Saturday, check out the annual Summer Thunder Cruise-in at Franklin Park in Purcellville.
The Cruise-In is a car show unlike any other - an admission-free car-loving party that pulls in hundreds of cars and thousands of aficionados. This year, they're trying to beat the 2007 record of more than 750 cars cars by reaching 1,000.
The day is all about the cars, providing a venue for attendees to admire many of the antique cars and modern day roadsters at the event, swap stories, and relax. Food will be available for purchase as well.
The pit crew of WJFK 106.7 FM's In the Pits- Racing Radio will act as the official emcees of the event and Animal's Planet, a local Northern Virginia classic rock and blues band, will perform.
Donations are accepted at the event, and this year will go to benefit the Victory Junction Gang Camp, a program which serves children from 7 to 15 years old with chronic medical conditions or serious illnesses. The camp gives children a free weeklong camp that allows them to connect with others that have similar conditions through fun activities including acting, athletics, horseback riding, art and playing music.
The event will be held from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Franklin Park in Purcellville.
