Commuters on the Virginia Railway Express had a slow start today when communication lines went down at 6:40 a.m., causing significant departure delays.
Only three or four trains had left the station this morning before CSX, the national company that owns the train tracks, experienced difficulties across the country, said Mark Roeber, VRE’s manager of public affairs. Though CSX’s communication lines are still down, Roeber said VRE was able to manipulate its train lines and restore service by 7:50 a.m.
Service is expected to be fully restored by the afternoon commute, he said.
“We’re hopeful that anything that happened to [the CSX communication lines] is resolved,” Roeber said.
VRE directed commuters to find other modes of transportation this morning, and Metrorail was accepting VRE tickets. Metro will continue to accept VRE tickets into the afternoon, until service is fully restored.
