A Leesburg man has been charged with possession of illegal fireworks in connection with a fire that damaged his townhouse and a neighboring residence on Saturday, the Loudoun County Fire Marshal’s Office said today.
The fire at 18408 Lanier Island Square in the River Creek community was caused by improperly disposed fireworks, authorities said. The damage was estimated at $400,500.
The homeowner, who was not identified by authorities, also was charged with “carelessly damaging property by fire.” Both charges are misdemeanors.
No one was seriously injured in the fire, officials said.
