A fire that destroyed a Leesburg house and its contents June 28 was started by a child playing with matches, authorities said today.

The Loudoun County Fire Marshal’s Office said the blaze at 18434 Rim Rock Circle in the Lakes at Red Rock subdivision resulted in damage estimated at $1.2 million.

An adult female and small child escaped from the house unharmed, but two firefighters suffered minor injuries, authorities said.
