Potomac Falls found itself in a matchup similar to that of Monday's Park View game, keeping it close in the first half but falling behind in the second. This time, Broad Run pulled away and went up by 14 points in the third on Thursday, going home with a 50-34 win
It dealt the Panthers their second loss in a row.
Both teams started slow on offense, with Broad Run barely making it into double digits by the end of the first. Haley Johnson hit a low jumper to give the Spartans a 10-8 lead going into the second.
Jenae Reid came out early in the second quarter and got a steal and layup to tie, but the Panthers gave away the lead after Nakisha Carter was charged with her second foul, sending Holly King to the line for two. King hit the first to put Broad Run back on top, but missed the second.
“She gets out sometimes and she can get some early buckets,” Potomac Falls head coach Lynn Ewald said. “She's a young player that's kind of finding her way out there.”
King ended up at the line several more times, hitting 10-for-15, along with a jumper in the third to give her 12 points for the night.
“She was under a 50 percent shooter coming into the game,” Broad Run head coach Mike O'Hara said. “She gets the ball and goes to the basket, and she makes things happen.”
King and Johnson made things happen for Broad Run, as Johnson had 16 points.
“She shot the ball extremely well,” O'Hara said. “She's been doing it for us all year. Tonight she shot well and she didn't force anything.”

The Panthers held off Broad Run's top scorer, Alexis Campbell, and kept her to one point in the first half and nine for the game.
Campbell scored only one field goal for the night, with the rest of her points coming off free throws. She went seven-of-eight from the line.
“We held Alexis Campbell to one field goal,” Ewald said. “Normally when you can hold her to that for three quarters you expect to be more in the game.”
Potomac Falls held the Spartans to 10 points in the second quarter -- most of those coming off free throws - to stay within six points at halftime. Both sides were able to execute their defense well, and according to O'Hara, that kept his team from executing its offense.
“We were hoping to try and get the tempo up and create turnovers, and they did a good job in the first half of slowing us down,” O'Hara said.
But after halftime, the Panthers fell behind and were unable to keep up with Broad Run.
“We scored two points in the third quarter, and they scored 10,” Ewald said. “That turns a six-point game into a 14-point game.”
Broad Run put up another 14 points in the fourth to give the team a 50-34 win, with 24 of those points coming off shots from the foul line.
“They had 10 field goals, and they scored 50 points on 10 field goals,” Ewald said. “They earned them. They were driving and being an aggressive team.”
With the win, Broad Run heads home Friday to face Dominion (1-12, 4-17). Potomac Falls heads to Brambleton to face Briar Woods (6-6, 12-8).
“They're a tough team. Last time we played them tough and they won by six,” Ewald said. “They're a similar team to us; they're a scrappy team.”
