Park View wished upon a star and came away with a win Monday night after Shernise Disney hit 26 points for the Patriots in a 68-53 win over Potomac Falls.
Disney, a freshman guard, hit 10 field goals and went six-of-eight from the line.
“She was more mentally focused throughout the game,” Park View head coach Kim Grigley said. “She executed when we asked and she was a team player.”
The Patriots came back from a seven-point deficit and got to within one point in the second quarter after Potomac Falls was called for a string of fouls. That gave Park View a chance to come back during a three-minute offensive drought for the Panthers, tying it up with less than three minutes to go.
Grigley said that after the first quarter, her team stepped up the intensity to make a comeback.
“I think they knew that the hard work that we put into the last week, that coming out slow was not the way to play,” Grigley said.
The Panthers ended the half going into the locker room up 27-26, but the early third quarter was the last time they led.

“Foul trouble was a lot of it,” Potomac Falls head coach Lynn Ewald said. “When you get key girls who are on the bench that's never good.”
At the start of the second half, Patriots junior guard Rachel Miller hit a three, followed by a steal from Disney and a layup to give Park View the lead. Miller ended the game with 19 points.
“We had trouble staying in front of Miller and Disney out on the perimeter,” Ewald said. “They were able to get in front of us and get past our defenders.”
Ewald partially blamed her team's loss on a poor third quarter.
“For three quarters it was competitive and it was the one quarter where we weren't,” Ewald said.
Sophomore guard Symone Berry led the Panthers with 14 points.
“(Berry) can score, and she's been doing that a lot for us this season,” Ewald said. “She's kept us in a lot of games, and that's one thing she can do.”
Both teams have tough challenges on Tuesday as Park View heads home to face Briar Woods and Potomac Falls has its second home game in a row against Broad Run.
Ewald said while his team won't have a lot of time to dwell on the loss, there were some positives to come out of the game.
“We've got to bounce back quick, and there's a lot of good stuff we can take from this,” Ewald said.
