The Loudoun Valley boys’ and girls’ basketball teams traveled to Fauquier Saturday to make up a pair of Cedar Run District games that had been postponed last week due to weather. Both teams, playing their second game in as many nights, were unable to come away with a victory.
In the first game of the doubleheader, the Loudoun Valley girls fell to Fauquier 54-39, one day after picking up a home victory over Culpeper.
Fauquier, which got a game-high 17 points from Adrienne Essiaw, opened up a 10-point lead during the second quarter and was never seriously threatened after that.
“We didn’t play with very much emotion at all. It was kind of stale throughout the night and they didn’t hustle and [Fauquier] took advantage of it,” Vikings Coach Jen Piccolomini said.
The Vikings (8-12, 5-8) did hold the Falcons to 10 points in the third quarter, but still trailed by 13 heading into the final period.
Loudoun Valley’s Kayla Sweet, Lauren Privette, and Jessica Mullen all had seven points apiece.
“We’ve got to regroup. We’ll just have to get ready for Stonewall,” Piccolomini said, referring to Tuesday’s regular-season finale against Stonewall Jackson at home.

Do you think benching your captains to start the game had anything to do with team chemistry, Coach?
